Narrator's POV:
She had made a poor job of hiding the damage, the cracks on the mask still showed through whenever she held it towards the light…
But, she'll have to make do with what she has.
It took her years to make and perfect this cover, so she'll sure as hell use it until it crumbles into dust.Upon placing it on yet again, she felt the sharp edges touch and dig into her tender skin.
With a sigh signaling her forced acceptance of her situation she headed for the door.
The chilly wind blew past her form as she started to make her way down the road formed by the cobblestones.
The further she got, the more her anxiety rose.
It's already been years since she's been wearing her metaphorical disguise, and throughout all this time her true fear was letting what's underneath show through. And now….
She can't hide it that well anymore…Feat clenched her throat shut as she arrived to the campus.
On the outside she still rocked that aloof look but inside she was filled with anxiety. As she forced a smile on her face for almost the thousandth time this week, she prayed to whatever god is out there that she'll get through this day without getting her true self uncovered.
The chatter of the crowds surrounding her got louder and louder the further she stepped into the building.
Twist after turn she made her way towards biology class.
Once at the door she softly knocked her knuckle against it before entering the enclosed perimeter.
After greeting the old man at the front desk she made her way towards hers and prepared for the next anxiety filled hours ahead of her.
Time trickled by at a snails pace.
Throughout the day she felt like eyes were burning holes into the back of her head.
Her paranoia jumped at the opportunity it was given. The stares were all for her.
The whispers were all about her.
Hell, she even got malicious smiles from all of them.Even May of all people.
That's what it kept whispering into her ear throughout the days.
Her fidgeting from soon started to actually earn a few worried and at times confused glances.
During the breaks the (h/c) relied on hear earphones/headphones for help.
She leaned on the shoulders of music and used it as her temporary sanctuary.
Even a second longer, even one more note mattered to her in this state. When break time came she went to the school yard, so she could be out of the sight of those prying eyes.
A buzz coming from her phone made her flinch.
With a fastened heartbeat and trembling hands she reached for it and flipped it over.
She pushed the button on the side and noticed that on the lit screen a different number was displayed then she expected.
With fear still clutching her throat in its iron grip she opened it fearing the worst.YaBoi𝙱𝚕𝚊𝚔𝚎 🤡✨:
𝙷𝚎𝚢𝚢, 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚞 @?
𝙸 𝚌𝚊𝚗'𝚝 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚗𝚢𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎. 😞The (h/c) chuckled and wanted to text him back but soon changed her mind.
The act that she keeps on everyday was more tiring than she remembered so she wanted to preserve as much of her left over energy as she could.
So with a bit of guilt nibbling on her consciousness she ignored the text./Time skip of 10 minutes/
Rushed footsteps approached the unsuspecting (h/c).
Soon a hand was clasped over her shoulder which made her simultaneously jump and shriek out of fright.
Her head whipped around, as her gaze set on the blonde behind her she put a hand over her heart and said
"Fuck, you almost scared the shit out of me.”She took an earbud out/pulled her headphones down as he plopped down by her side.
“You didn't text back, so I became worried.”
He nonchalantly explained as he dug into his bag.He didn't seem to suspect anything.
The two of them spent the rest of the break chatting and fooling around unaware of the green eyes of envy that watched them from a nearby window.
