Narrator's POV:
“Excuse me, Sir!”
A gentle voice called out to him.
His foggy gaze darted around the room until they settled on a young man.
His clothing choice chilled him to the core for a second, up until the realization struck him that he no longer has to be on the run from loan sharks.
“What do you want, son?”
The elderly asked in a puzzled tone. The brunette man held his hand out.
After looking at it for a few seconds, he placed his in it and shook it.“Excuse me for me intrusion.
My name is Matthew Grant.
I've heard that you're the ground keeper at the old major's office.
My father and I were hired to do some renovations, and I'd like to ask for the keys. Mr. Whatley told us that he has lost his while moving, so we'd appreciate it if you'd to lend us yours. If you'd like us to, we can return it to you on a daily basis after the work hours are over.”
Samuel remained silent as he thought all of this over.
No matter how believable the man seemed, he didn't want to take a risk.“First, I'd like to see your license and the contract.”
He said in an unnegotiable manner and held his wrinkled hand out.Spencer's eyebrows raised for a split second in surprise before he regained his posture.
“Certainly.”
Was all he said before reaching into his laptop bag and pulled a folder out.“Shall we take a seat?”
He asked the man to gain some extra time. After sitting down at a relatively clean table, he placed the open folder on top of it and turned it towards his conversation partner.
The greying man squinted at the photocopied text and began to read through it.
Sam was never the one that knew anything about contacts, but even he knew one thing.
For it to be legal, he'd have to sign it, and yet he couldn't remember of such happening lately.“Why was I not I told about this earlier?” He asked with suspicion clear in his eyes.
“ I was supposed to sign this too, wasn't I?” He cocked a bushy brow.
“Well, you see Mr. Samuel, this contract was made between the major and my family.
So, there was no need for any of the employees to be included.”The man nodded his head at this, which caused his blonde locks to sway.
“Alright kiddo. Seems good to me.”
The elderly said before standing up and motioning towards Spencer to follow him.“I have my keyring in the break room. You'll get it in a second.
After I get my pay, that is.”
The brunette nodded yet again and reached into his bag for the second time during their meeting.
Soon he produced a plump looking envelope and looked up at the adult.
“The keys first.”
He stated in a serious tone and held out his open facing palm.
The old man nodded his head, went to the faculty room and handed over the keys, while he had no idea that by thus he has moved the brunette closer to his illicit goals.
