Narrator's POV:
Little white lies piled up more and more like snowflakes throughout the years, and now…
Now she can't even see through the wall made of them.It was always something so little…
“I'm fine”
“Just tired”
“I already ate”
So by now it became a second nature kind of gesture.
So, why?
Why is he here right now?
Why does he not believe these?
What am I doing wrong???
Her anxiety got worse and worse and slowly started to suffocate her as her messed up mind couldn't comprehend her situation.
She was so used to fooling people that she never thought there'll ever be someone who became immune to her soothing tale.
Blake's face only showed concern for the (h/c) which just made things worse…
'Stop looking at me like that!'
'Just believe me already!'
Her stirred up mind screamed to her.
“What's wrong?”
The question floated in the still air between them and was left unanswered.
'I can't tell him'
'He'd hate me if he knew.'
The (h/c) clammed up yet again.
Her mind still worked feverishly on trying to understand what's going on.
It's already been weeks since her metaphorical disguise became damaged. Had she not been faking well enough? No, that can't be.
HE was fooled by it for a while, too.
So, what the hell happened?“Listen…
You're barely eating nowadays, and you're always fidgeting.
Plus, most of the time, you seem like you'll start crying at any minute.”(E/c) eyes widened in shock.
That's it! Her eyes!
People do say after all that the eye is the mirror of the soul. Her throat closed up.
No words of denial could be forced through it.
She tried desperately to deny, to calm, to disperse, to lie yet all she managed to make was mere chocking sounds.Blake sat down on the carpet.
A hand pushing his blonde locks back while he let out a sigh.“Listen (Y/n). I know that something is wrong.
WE know that something's wrong.
We're worried about you.Ms. Beatrice said that you're screaming and crying a lot.
And you always run to the door whenever someone comes looking extremely frantic…”Her eyes bulged in their sockets, so strongly it would have been no surprise had one of them or at least a blood vessel popped out.
She always made sure to put music on and turn it to the highest volume before letting her breakdown come over her.How the hell could she still be heard if the music is so loud, even on the ground she can feel the vibrations caused by it?
She rocked her chaotic mind for an explanation.
Until she stumbled across one that could explain her screams.“I…
There's just this huge ass spider in my room, it usually hides under the dresser; that's why I'm screaming.”
She said, trying to sound believable as she unconsciously pulled herself together to appear smaller.“Oh really?”
Blake cocked a brow in disbelief before he marched over to said dresser and checked underneath and behind it.“I don't see any spider.
So, how come that it makes you scream?”“I…”
Her mind came up blank, no matter how much she rocked it for more excuses and reasons.
As Blake stood up from his kneeling position, he held a shred of some paper in his hand. His hand brushed his pants down before he looked down on it.
Grey eyes widened in shock as his mind processed what he was seeing.
A hand pulling her hair.
The picture fraction barely showed her head and a tanned hand, but it was just enough for him to piece it together.
“Were you bullied?”
The question floated in the air just like that other one many minutes ago.
Tears started to prick her eyes, her pulse rose, and her throat remained close “thanks” to the generous help of fear.
“Is this why?”
He held the torn piece out towards her.
Her eyes inspected the shred before they remained wide open. Her breathing became even harder as her mind went into panicked frenzy.
She tried so hard to keep it all inside.
She worked tirelessly to hide her past away. Her plastic reality crumbled to dust around her.
And soon her made up image shattered into pieces as a single teardrop cascaded her face.In a rather panicked state, Blake strode over to the girl which made her flinch and just made things worse.
He pulled her into a hug and the gate finally broke after all these years of use.
It all came out. The tears, the chocked back sobs and word by word the story of ruin only ever paused by hiccups.
As the layers of defense peeled off one by one, he started to see the scars and cracks littering her from.
The illusion disappeared, and he got to see the girl who's been hiding behind it throughout this whole time.
He got to see the one that was by that point damaged beyond repair.
