I Can't Lose You [Eren Yeager x Reader]

17. Back Home

We were riding back to Trost, but we had a little problem. There were a bunch of abnormal titans following us, but we couldn't ride fast enough because of all the weight in one of the wagons.

I looked inside the wagon to see what was in it. Surely we don't need this stuff, we could dump it out and ride faster.

My eyes widened at what I saw. It was the dead bodies of all our comrades.

"Captain!" a soldier said. "What are we gonna do? All the extra weight is slowing the wagon down!"

Captain Levi hesitated before saying, "Leave them behind. These guys aren't any special."

I was shocked at his answer. "Captain?! You can't be serious!"

"This is just how it goes, Y/n," Captain Levi replied.

I was about to say something, but it hit me. These soldiers joined the Survey Corps willing to die for the sake of humanity. That's what it's like for every soldier here right now. He's right. They aren't any special. But it still hurts.

The back of the wagon opened up, and the soldiers dumped the bodies out of the wagons. I watched them, one by one. Then I noticed a familiar face. Petra. I couldn't help but let tears run down my face.

"Y/n," Eren said.

I looked at him, still crying.

"It's gonna be ok. I know it hurts, but we gotta keep moving forward."

"Right," I mumbled.

When we arrived back in Trost, there were a bunch of civilians waiting for us. I remember when I used to be like them. Excited to see my mother come back home. Living with the fact that she may never return.

As we rode through, a man came up to Captain Levi.

"You- You're Captain Levi!" the man said. "Where's Petra? The girl that's supposed to be on your squad. Where is she?"

Captain Levi just stared blankly at the man.

"Captain Levi...?" The man looked angry. "Where is she?! Please tell me she came back home! Please!"

Captain Levi didn't say anything.

The man looked down at the ground and started crying. "No, this can't be."

"C'mon," Commander Erwin said. "We gotta get back to HQ."

So then, we all rode back to HQ. But when we got there, I couldn't get something out of my head. That image of the titan crying came flooding back into my head. Was she crying because we were able to get Eren back? Did she need him for something? If so, what could she possibly need him for?

I pushed those thoughts away when Eren came running towards me. "Hey Y/n."

"Hey Eren, how are you feeling?" I replied.

"I'm ok, for now at least."

"That's good," I replied.

Eren then pulled out something from behind his back. It was a little box. "Here, I want you to have this."

I took the box from him and said, "Is this what you were hiding from me?"

"Yea," he replied. "Open it."

I opened the box and looked inside. "Eren..." There was a beautiful necklace inside with half a heart. "It's beautiful."
Eren took the necklace and moved behind me. I moved my hair out of the way so he could put it on me. "I'm glad you like it."

Once he finally got it on, I turned around and hugged him. "Thank you."

"No problem," he replied. He then took something from his pocket and showed me the other half of the heart. "I won't wear it around my neck, but I'll keep it on me as a sign to stay alive and fight for you."

"That's sweet," I said, smiling. "I'll do the same then."

We hugged again, and stayed like that for a while.

"Uh, Y/n? Eren?" A familiar voice said. "Are you guys gonna make out soon or...?"

Eren and I immediately broke apart and looked to see who said that. We saw Mikasa and Armin.

"Shut up Mikasa," Eren said.

Mikasa chuckled a little and said, "Sorry, sorry."

"Ooh, Y/n," Armin said. "Where'd you get that necklace from?"

"Eren gave it to me," I replied, smiling.

"It's pretty," Mikasa said. She then looked at Eren. "You didn't steal it did you?"

"What?!" Eren said. "Of course I didn't!"

We all laughed and joked around. I can't believe I did it. I survived my first mission. Hopefully I'll survive all of my upcoming missions.
