Riley's POV

We walked into the courtroom at 9am like requested. There he stood in the same position as yesterday. I don't know what is going to be the outcome but one thing I'm sure of is that he isn't going to go down without a fight
"Alright, Who is next to take the stand?" The judge asked
"Mr Daniels" The Defense offered making the Judge nod as Lucas stood up still in his cuffs heading over to the stand 

He was soon sworn to an oath before sitting down
"okay Mr Daniels" His lawyer said as he approached
"Would you care to tell us why and how Miss Raymond left?" He asked and Lucas confidently nodded
"I don't know why she left, as far as I was concerned we were happy, we were going to settle down and start a life together and then one day I came home from work to find her gone with all her belongings missing" He said instantly making me narrow his eyes at him
I should have known that he was going to straight front lie through his teeth

"Then what happened?" His Lawyer asked
"I tried to contact her but with no avail I headed to Toronto to find her for myself only to have her friends lie to me about her being out of town" He continued
"Why would they lie to you?" the Lawyer asked
"I don't know" he replied
Maybe because they knew that if I was going to lie about something there was clearly a reason behind it

"No further questions your honour" The Lawyer said making the judge look to my lawyer
"How hard do you want me to go Riley. I don't want to struck any bad feelings" He said sweetly
"As hard as you can" I said looking Lucas right in the eye as a smirk played on his lips
I soon cut the eye contact as soon as I felt James wrap his arms around me again
"You've got this" He whispered into my ear making me loosen up slightly turning to smile at him

"Mr Daniels, you say that you have no idea why Miss Raymond left. Is that correct?" My lawyer asked and Lucas nodded
"So did Miss Raymond not leave a note?" He asked and Lucas stuttered slightly 
"Yes" He said bowing his head
"I bring the jury to look at the first point of evidence in the case, Mr Daniels. Is that the Note Miss Raymond left you?" He asked and Lucas nodded
"Could you read it out for us" He said and Lucas looked up at the judge who nodded making Lucas look back at the note

"Lucas, It's been a long 3 years with you. I don't know what happened or where we went wrong but I can't be with you anymore. I can't be in relationship with someone who thinks it's okay to lay a hand on me, control me in such a manner that makes me question my own existence. I don't know what I did to make you turn on me nor do I care to stick around to find out how far you are willing to go to assert your power. Count me out , Riley" Lucas said making my breath hitch the moment he started reading it
I wrote that in tears, I was breaking my own heart and I don't know why
It could have been because of the fact I still thought there was a good side of him, but I was more wrong then I had ever been

"Thankyou, now when Miss Raymond left you tried to contact her. What do you mean by that?" my Lawyer asked
"I text her, called her" He said and the lawyer nodded
"What kind of texts Mr Daniels" He asked
"I er worried ones?" Lucas asked 
"Evidence 2 your honour" My lawyer said uncovering the first set of text messages I'd received after leaving
"Where are you Riley? You think you can leave me? The only person that loves you. Stupid woman" My lawyer read out
"Now I don't know what you define as worried ones Mr Daniels" He said turning to Lucas again
"I mean I was angry in those ones" He muttered
"Just those?" My lawyer asked making Lucas nod

"Evidence 3 more texts" My lawyer said making my stomach jump reading them
"Tell that sister of yours that I'll be coming for her too" My Lawyer said making Lucas stutter, he looked like a deer in the headlights

"Evidence 4 would be some more texts. Ones I would like you to explain to me Mr Daniels" My Lawyer said making Lucas nod
"Toronto is a small place Riley. You can't hide forever" My Lawyer read out
"Oh I met your boy James. He was a delight" he continued, I turned to James who gave my hand an extra squeeze before giving me the confidence to look at Lucas again
"What were these about?" My lawyer asked
"I had come to where Riley started dancing and was met with James and his friends. They all lied and said that Riley was out of town" Lucas said
"And how did you know at the time that they were lying?" He asked
"I saw it on her instagram" Lucas said
"An instagram that had you blocked. Now how would you have been able to see it?" My Lawyer asked making me smile to myself. He had him stuck in a hole he couldn't get out of 

"Recess your honour?" The defence asked
"After the defendant has answered the question" The judge said making us all look at Lucas
"I knew because I had made a fake account a while ago to keep tabs on Riley" He said making me drop my jaw slightly 
This whole time I had thought that it was George or someone feeling him information.. I was wrong
