"You're late!" the coach bellowed. "Where were you?! You know what, save your excuses. Can't you ever be early for any practices or most importantly the inter-school swim meet?! Get changed. Everyone is waiting. You've already missed two events. If you're not out in five, I'll have to send out Wayne to cover for you."

Gabe managed to get on in just the nick of time. Wayne, of course, was not happy about it. Gabe had stolen his title of best sprinter and had risen to the top as the team's best athlete.

Gabe won every male event he could participate and he didn't even break a sweat. Wayne grumbled, "He's starting was trash! I bet I could do better."

Last but not least was the relay race. Five strokes, twelve teams, four members per team and ten laps. This event would be worth the most points. Wayne was the first swimmer, Ray up next, John right after and Gabe to finish it off.

Wayne swam his laps swiftly placing his team in fourth place. Ray went next and managed to maintain their position. Ray went next. He sliced through the water maintaining their position until he began to slow down on his way back.

"What's happening?" Wayne hollered.

"He's got a cramp," The coach said concerned. He didn't know what to do. Getting John out of the water would cause their team to forfeit and he was almost about to finish his lap.

Teams began surpassing him one by one. They were now in the twelfth position. All the last swimmers had begun their last two laps.

"We're going to lose!" Wayne complained.

John managed to pull through and finished his lap and Gabe quickly took his cue. Slowly but surely Gabe took over each swimmer harnessing their speed and amplifying them to his advantage. He was on his last lap. It was incredible Gabe was able to bring them from last to third. Everything was moving too fast that he couldn't see. Nor hear anything. He touched the wall signifying that he finished his final lap.

Gabe pulled off his goggles and saw the final score. They won second place!

"Incredible!" the coach came running to him and giving him the tightest hug, he could possibly give. "This is the first time that we have ever gotten into the inter-school leaderboard."

Gabe looked over his coach's shoulder to see that the swim department has scored a total of 350 points in the inter-school annual sports competition. Which puts their school in first place? The School in second place manages to score 120 points.

The swim department had earned its first trophy in decades.

The coach was literally crying. An endless stream of tears of joy. "This is the first...*sob...time in my...*sob... entire career something like this has ever happened." Everyone in the swim team came and gave their coach a group hug even Gabe who was reluctant at first.

"You were amazing!" Trevor bellowed from his seat in the audience. Gabe ran up to him and ruffled his neatly gelled hair.

"Your hair doesn't look good gelled. It'll make you look like you have a lack of hair, grandpa."
