Chapter 31 - Ambush

"Ugh...," Tessa groaned. She isn't getting anywhere on her search for the truth. "It's always a dead end!" she screamed in frustration.

"Tessa honey, I think you need a break from whatever you are doing." Mrs Morrison was getting very concerned. Ever since Tessa came back, she had locked herself in her room for hours at a time. She only ever left to go to the bathroom or to get a fresh glass of water.

Tessa sighed, "Fine". She wasn't getting anywhere anyway. She needed a break. She needed something to keep her mind off her theories. Just then, "Mom, what time is it?"

"8:45 at night, why?"

Tessa sprang up a ran to the bathroom to wash up. "I'm going over to a friend's house. He invited a ton of us over to an aftergame party. Can I get a ride?"

Mrs Morrison sighed and agreed.

"Thanks, mom," Tessa gave her a big hug. "I'll follow a friend back so you don't have to worry about fetching me."

Wayne Manor was in full-swing party mode. You could see flashes of coloured lights through the windows and the muffled sound of music playing. There were at least a hundred people that showed up. Wayne's parents were out on a business trip on the weekend leaving him in charge of the house.

"Tessa!" Wayne waved. "So glad you could make it!"

Gabe groaned. He has been walking in circles for the past hour. Slamming his head repeatedly on his punching bag. "It's like a prison." He eyed Trevor annoyingly. "Grandpa, how long is this modification of yours gonna take?"

Trevor had been tinkering with the suit's mask to see if he can make any improvements. At the moment the mask just looks like a very thin gas mask. Besides that, he has also been working on new designs for Ron's bow

Maddison and Ron have been trying to memorize their watch's functions. Ron had just discovered the 'change into their suit' button. Meanwhile, Fred is busy using the control panel to look through as many CCTV footages on the recent White House kidnap.

All of a sudden, all their watches began buzzing. Everyone except Fred nodded at each other before pressing their watch to change into their suits.

Fred briefly told the rest of the team the best and safest location to teleport to. Trevor handed Ron his new and improved bow. Then they teleported away.

The group landed in a dark alleyway. From their location, the group could see what the threat was. Sirens were blaring, commands were being given, blue and red lights filled the scene. Over a dozen police cars surrounded a large bank.

"Surrender all the stolen goods before we use lethal forces!" an armed police officer was saying through a megaphone.

A man's laughter could be heard echoing through the night sky. "Come at me! I dare you!" The man levitated down from the top of the multi-story building holding a duffel bag stuffed with goods on one hand and some sort of gun on the other.
