So basically the evil queen was a skeleton and her child was a skeleton. The evil queen sacrificed her child's soul to create the curse upon the different worlds. The child now soulless somehow didn't dust. Their grandmother the previous evil queen created special vials to give them emotions.(cough*Ink*cough)

The remains of the skeleton child's soul left ink marks on their body. The father who is the Good King and the grandmother did their best in raising someone with limited artificial emotions. The grandmother was trying to find a way to restore the child's soul.

And maybe the sorcerer order as well. The child's magic mutated to let them live without a soul. They were very magically powerful. The school is told that the skeleton needs to drink their vials for health reasons and no one knows that the skeleton is soulless.

Even their mother thinks the kid somehow was saved by the grandmother and witch order. The skeleton child can fake it as long as they have vials.

(Skeletons can be either genders but the original evil queen prefer being a female and married a king so the female form of the family line was traditional. This is basically Ink and I don't care if the other characters exist or not)
(Might make something dramatic like the child can only regain their soul if they lift the curses off the worlds.)( Or a ritual of some kind. Maybe all they needed was to take the remains of the soul tattooed to their body fused whole again.)(Also the reason the kid survived was the fact that after the average monster dies their souls leave their body but Ink's own was still attached to him splattered even if it's dead.)
