Error is the god of destruction and needs to destroy universes for the usual reasons. Ink gets in his way and fights over the universes with him. The thing is this multiverse doesn't really have a theme. Sure their are alternative timelines, but most universes Ink creates are originals. Most Undertale universes don't exist

Instead Marvel, Dc, original Undertale, Naruto, Harry Potter, Bleach, really any anime, movie, and manga you can think of would each be a universe of their own with the alternative timelines we authors love creating.

Error has to fight all your favorite heroes to end the universe. Sometimes he fails and moves on to another. He mostly fails because of that horrible habit of  heroes getting up and never staying down or get a stupid plot boast. Error has no desire to deal with this bullshit anymore than he has to so he tries on different universes. Not even mentioning the stupid creator joining in and dragging characters across to neighboring universes to continue to fight.

People were selfish any ways so even if they believed him or were self sacrificing they would still most likely sacrifice the neighboring universe instead of their own. It's not that Error hates fighting. He enjoys it but the seer extremes people will go to try and stop him. When you get hit by weapons that should erase you from existence or experimental technology or a spell/curse that inconveniences him it isn't really enjoyable.

(I just had the thought of Error playing the traditional villain role and being driven off by your favorite hero who saves the day. He keeps to himself the matter that he needs a universe to die for another to continue living. Heroes don't really leave their universes as their committed to protecting it unlike Sans. Ink gets twitchy about people being outside their universes more than they should be.)
