James was in the room with Loel and her parents, Loel wasn't awake yet though; thankfully. Braydon stepped in the room started to conversate with James, it ended with James rolling his eyes and leaving the room. I was still standing outside of the room, looking through the window. As he passed me, he bumped my shoulder, "Even with her losing her memory, you have no chance with her. So, stop trying and stay out of her life." He whispered and walked off.
I tried not to let his words get to me as I finally grabbed the courage to walk into her room. "We sadly have to go. The doctors say that when she wakes up they're keeping her for one more night be sure that she's ok to go home, so we'll be back tomorrow, me and my husband have a really important meeting that cannot be rescheduled so I ask of you both to please stay with her, it would mean a lot to me. I know she was closest to you both, so I trust you." Loel's mom explained. We both nodded in agreement, and they kissed her forehead goodbye.
"She could wake up any minute." Braydon said, sitting in one of the chairs beside the bed. "I know." I sigh deeply. "Look, I've tried to hold it in but I really have to use the bathroom. Are you ok if I leave for a sec?" Braydon says, looking at me with his brown bold eyebrows furrowed.
"God damn it Braydon, what if she wakes up while you're gone??" I whine. "I don't know!" He yells. "Ok, ok, just hurry." I rub the back of my neck while he runs out of the room to the nearest bathroom.
I turn to look at her, her eyes were still closed. She's still so beautiful... even with all these bruises and scars. I walk over slowly, still scared that she might wake up and gave her a kiss on her forehead, since it might be my last one.
Guess what? She's awake now. I was just parting my lips from her forehead to see her eyes wide as ever when I looked back at her. WHY ME. I looked back at her with the same expression. What's going on in her head right now? Does she recognize me or is she just terrified that some stranger was kissing her on the forehead? My questions were answered when she started to freak out. "Who the hell are you?" She started to look around the room and sit up. "Wait- I don't think you should be doing that!" I got closer to her and tried to stop her fast movements and figured out that I wouldn't be able to stop her so I did the first thing that came to mind.
"Please stop, I don't think you should be moving like this, it's ok I won't hurt you or anything!" I said in a panic, she kept squirming until we both realized the position, we were in. I was holding on to her face, both hands delicately on her cheek and our faces were dangerously close. The sight of her blushing made me blush and I slowly laid her back down from sitting up. She slowly calmed down and I stood back up straight, nervously playing with my leather jacket zipper.
"I uh- sorry I kissed you... I didn't think you'd wake up-"
"What!?" Loel yelled.
"I mean! Sorry you had to wake up to me kissing you?" I said, unsure of myself. Now would be a perfect time for you to come back from the bathroom Bray.
She looked me up and down twice in a quick pace and started to question me. "You never answered my question, and where am I?"
"Heh, I don't think that's important right now." I attempted to stall. I still have no Idea if I want to tell her who I was to her before she lost her memory or if I want her to think she's just meeting me. Which she is according to her knowledge, but you know. Loel rose her eyebrow and crossed her arms. "Um. My name is Alex Brookes, we were best friends before you l-"
"Oh! She's awake!" Braydon rushes in, nudging my elbow and shaking his head at me, signaling not to finish my sentence. Loel immediately switched her attention to Braydon. Studying him. He had his mid length wavy hair in a messy bun, his hair was a dark brown color and his skin was tanned, he stood 4 inches taller than me, making him 5'9. His brown eyes slender and coated with his long eyelashes.
"Well great, maybe you can tell me what's going on?" She said to him, sitting up slowly. "Mhm." He nodded, "You are in a hospital right now, you're here because you got into a car crash. And we are your friends checking up on you."
"Well, how come I don't remember you guys?" She asked. "Memory loss." He muttered.
"Oh." She said, none of us knowing how to keep the conversation going. We stayed silent until the doctor came in and spoke a bunch of gibberish, then said something we could all understand. "You can remember everything you've learned in school and things like that and people you've grown up with your whole life, like your parents and family, but everyone else you've forgotten about." He made a fake face of sympathy and continued. "You'll be released tomorrow afternoon." And with that, he left the room with his clip board full of files.
I texted Braydon telling him that I was leaving and asked if he could stay with her and of course he said yes. I said my good-byes and told Loel I'd see her at school. God I'm so nervous for school.
