《MATT'S POV》

Matt arrived at school an hour before his classes began the next day, since he got a ride from Jay, who started an hour earlier than he did.

He didn't really mind, he had an exam today which he could more easily study for whenever he was at school, so it probably benefited him that he got up so early.

But before he could actually get to the studying part, his plans got interupted by the head of the school, Mr. Bailey.
"Matt, that's your name, right?"
Matt looked up at the tall man, wondering what he had done wrong this time.

"Ehm, yes?"
Next to Mr. Bailey was a boy. He had dark, curly hair and a warm, darker toned skin. He looked at Matt with curiosity.

"Matt, this is Charley. He's new to this school. I was supposed to show him around, but something came up. Do you mind...?"
Matt knew he didn't have any choice, but he also didn't really mind. He liked talking to the new kids.

"Sure."
Mr Bailey nodded and then quickly retreated to his office.
"Are you ready?" Matt asked the boy.
"Yeah, sure." Charley mumbled.

Matt started walking, the boy next to him.
"What grade are you in?" He asked, trying to get to know this mysterious guy.

"11th." His answer was short, but he seemed a little less distant, again looking at Matt intensely.
"I'm supposed to be in biology right now." He suddenly added, surprising Matt a bit.

"Oh, so is my brother. You might be classmates."
"Perhaps, yes. What's his name?"
"Jay. He's very friendly, so don't worry about approaching him."

"Alright, thanks." Charley said, but Matt wasn't done yet. He knew how hard making new friends could be.
"Maybe you can also talk to his friendgroup too. They're quite popular apparently, although I have absolutely no idea how they achieved that status."

He grinned. "Well, my suspicion is that they're just handsome."
He looked at Charley a bit more thoroughly. "But so are you."
Charley seemed a bit caught off guard by his sudden compliment.

"Oh. Thanks."
"You're not very talkative, are you?"
Charley grinned. "You certainly are."

Matt nodded. "Oh, this is the library, by the way. There's some interesting books in here, but I don't really read much so I think if you really want some advice you should ask someone else."

"Maybe your brother?" Charley looked like he was joking, but Matt responded in a serious way anyway.
"Yeah, although I don't know if he reads a lot. But you could ask Riven, his friend?"

"Riven?" The boy said. It seemed like he was trying to remember their names, so Matt helped him. "Yes. But his friends often call him Riv."
Charley frowned. "Riv... I feel like I've heard that name before."

Matt shrugged. "Did you move here from far away? Otherwise you might've ran into him some day."
Charley didn't respond, still trying to remember. He finally gave up. "Yeah, maybe."

"Let's go to the cafeteria now." Matt already started walking.
It didn't take long for Charley to catch up to him and start walking next to him again.

He liked that the boy did that, instead of walking behind him. He had showed someone around the school before and that guy just kept behind him, following him wherever they went, like a dog. It annoyed him.

Charley meanwhile seemed sure of himself. He walked with big steps, easily keeping up with Matt. Matt was used to his long legs and thus bigger steps being a nuisance to people, but Charley didn't seem to have a problem with it.
