THE following few hours were the most exhausting she had ever felt, because despite the pain they were feeling due to the loss of a friend—they still had to pretend. It had felt like an eternity to Andrea and the rest of her friends.
After being questioned at the sheriff's station, telling the police the story that Chris had made up to explain Allison's death—Andrea went home with Isaac clutching her arms tightly, not saying a word the whole drive back.
Lucas was worse than the girl. He was practically a walking zombie, his eyes swollen with tears and not saying a word except when being questioned by Deputy Parrish. The boy chose to go with Chris Argent for the time being, not wanting to go back home.
The two were greeted by Ava, who had a look of sympathy written all over her face as she pulled her daughter into her arms, giving her a comforting hug. A mother's hug wasn't something that Andrea was too familiar with, because the second Ava started murmuring a string of comforting words, the girl broke.
Andrea's knees felt weak, slowly making her body drop to the ground. She fell back onto the woman's chest, a sob escaping her lips as her chest began to grow heavy.
The girl didn't even realize her eyes that were beginning to glow jade-green, pain bursting through her chest with every sob that escaped her lips. She wanted to scream, to roar—but nothing she did could ever make the feeling go away. The feeling of lost, and grieve.
Sitting just a few feet away from them, was Isaac. The boy's heart broke for the girl he loved, and also for the friend he had just lost.
Though he may not want to admit it, Isaac cared about Allison deeply—maybe even love her. She wasn't just someone who he knew from school, or from their adventures together. She his friend—and he didn't have many of those.
The sight of Andrea crying her heart out only made it worse. It hurt him to see the girl he loved in so much pain, so ... broken. And he couldn't be the one comforting her, because he too was feeling the pain.
He had the ability to take away a person's pain, but this wasn't something he could just take away. The feeling would stay forever, because death doesn't happen to the person, it happens to the people around them.
Allison Argent was an amazing soul, one of the purest that Andrea had met in her years of living. And she had died doing what she believed in—saving people, protecting people.
After a while, Andrea had managed to pull herself together. She now sat beside Isaac on the sofa of her living room, the two of them holding each other's hand tightly while waiting for Ava to make them some tea.
