It's the American Dream
because the way to get there
is to slumber through life.
They want you dreaming
so you don't see their opulence
glinting through your broken window
in a home that's not yours.It's the American Dream
because it's not sustainable;
burn out the people at the bottom
to heat those at the top.
The Earth yells in hurricanes
but they'll pray to the invisible
instead of taking action.It's the American Dream
because you can't have it,
it belongs to those who were born there
and someone has to hold it up from the bottom.
You have to earn it
because "someone else did",
and you need to take it for yourself.
