When the other children have all they want
the toys, the clothes, the pets,
what do the rest have to worry?
At least they have three meals.

When the other teens have all they want,
the phones, the computers, the photos,
what do the rest have to worry?
At least they aren't bullied.

When the young adults don't have bills,
a free home, free food, free insurance,
what do they have to worry?
They're too young to be depressed.

When adults that don't understand
that all events have consequences,
that some have it different than others,
they cause the problem that persists.

When this child didn't get what she wanted
she was taught patience
at the cost of jealousy
and downcast eyes.

When this teen had hand me downs
she was taught humility
at the cost of low self confidence
and well fitting clothes.

When this young adult paid her and her father's bills,
she was taught fiscal responsibility
at the cost of a college education
and no savings account.

This adult needed pills and therapy
when she should have had it as a teen
because the child experienced
the unfortunates of life.
