How is it we know
if young sparks will catch?
Striking different flint
desperate for heat. And if one flare lights
into a bonfire
how do we know it will last
beyond winter nights? Will we destroy forests
searching for the flicker
that will last our lifetime?
Will we learn from the cinders? Then, when we are blistered
from our insatiable search,
will we know
if it was really love?Until there is nothing left
how do we find
the blaze
that burns brightest?
