~2017~

With her purse in one hand and her coffee cup in the other, Stevie led the way down the long hall. "What room did she say?" She wondered, eyes traveling back and forth to each room number.

"Uhh," he thought about it for a second, "3...3-something." Lindsey laughed lightly, trailing only a couple of feet behind, but still struggling to keep up. "You excited?" He knew she was- that was all she had talked about all the way there that morning.... That new baby.

"You're not helpful, Lindsey." She half grinned, shaking her head softly. "And of course..." she added, reaching back with one hand to find his jacket sleeve. "Aren't you so excited, grandpa?" Stevie let out a soft laugh as her head met his shoulder, still trailing further down the hallway together.

Nodding his head, he wrapped his arm around her. "I get to hold the baby first..." he was teasing her, like usual.

Tossing her head back, she let out a sarcastic chuckle. "Oh, in your dreams." Stevie reached up, tangling his fingers in hers.

Just as Lindsey was getting ready to reply, their son- in- law popped out into the hallway. "There you are." Jason greeted them with a smile- one that only a new father could conquer up.

He looked so thrilled- so happy to have that new addition and it made Stevie's heart just burst.

"Congratulations, sweetheart." She patted his arm softly as she slipped away from her husband to give the younger man a hug. "But I really hope the baby has mama's hair." She half smirked, poking fun at his hair-loss... He was only 34 and already balding- it was insane, but kind of impressive.

Laughing softly, Jason kissed the top of her head lightly. "Good luck in there." He playfully warned.

"I've been putting up with her for a long time, honey." She assured.

Patting Jason's shoulder, Lindsey's eyes followed his wife into the room. "You're the one we should be wishing luck to." He chuckled, even though he was being very serious.

That part was the easy part of fatherhood, but once they left the hospital, that's when the hard part really began... Raising a good human wasn't easy.

"So good luck, bud." He added as he headed into the room as well.

Stevie was already sitting at the foot of their daughters hospital bed, staring down at the little girl in her arms.

She was wrapped in a pink blanket, a little hat with a bow covering her head full of curls as these little blue eyes roamed her grandmothers face.

"Lindsey, look..." she never glanced up, even though she knew he'd walked into the room.

"Hi, honey." He gave Lola a soft smile as he put down the vase of roses on the side table next to her. "Congratulations."

With a sweet smile tugging at the corners of her mouth, Lola stared at the bouquet. "Thank you, dad."

"She has the littlest nose..." Stevie was so fascinated by the baby, everything else played as background noise. "Linds?" She was still watching her little eye lashes flutter as she ran the pad of thumb across her chubby red cheeks.
