Lauren was heading down the stairs of her apartment since the elevator was out of order.

She was about to walk down the stairs of the seventh floor when a large dog squeezed through the opening.

Lauren recognized him as the dog of the little girl she would babysit.

Was she okay?

As much as Lauren would love to get to work on time, she decided that leaving the dog out wasn't the best option.

So she began to walk towards the apartment door where the dog lived.

It was cracked open.

The dog began to growl at Lauren, protectively standing in front of the door.

Lauren's eyes found the few drops of blood on the floor.

That's when she decided to call her friends, the cops.

Lauren was an FBI agent who was about to be given a story.

The cops got the dog under control and the Cuban showed them her badge.

She went inside with them, finding the blood trail.

She followed it to the bathroom.

There laid the mother of the little girl.

She had millions of deep dog bites and scratches on her body.

This made Lauren wonder.

Was the mother hurting her child?

The dog was a loyal friend to the little girl, he never showed any signs of aggression.

She had to have provoked the little girl.

The dog ran to protect the closet, growling and biting one of the officers.

"Goddamn it! Get me a goddamn muzzle!" The cop grabbed the dog by the collar and muzzled him.

The dog was a pit bull, which made them think that this was the dog's doing.

They heard a tiny voice from inside the closet.

"Mack." The girl peaked through the closet door.

There were scratches on the door, dents on it from someone's fist.

The cop opened the door and the dog's tail immediately began to wag when he saw his friend.

"Hey the damn muzzle off of him, he was only protecting her." Lauren spoke, making the cops instantly do as they were told.

Lauren got to read the name on the dog's collar.

Max.

But the little girl couldn't pronounce it correctly.

The dog licked all over the little girl's face, making her giggle.

She was around four or five at the most.

"Au'n." The little girl saw the green eyed woman.

"Yes, hi Y/N/N." Lauren squatted down to the girl's height.

"Mack." The girl wrapped her arms around the dog who didn't seem to care.

"You know this little girl?" One of the cops asked.

"Yes, I would baby sit." Lauren admitted, knowing this little girl well.

"I think it's best if you look after her for the time behind, we looked at the record of the mom and she has no living relatives." The cop spoke, making Lauren nod.
