Lauren looked at the girl, knowing there was no doubt about it. This girl was her child, the same child she had left with her ex for her career years ago.

The girl was tiny, just skin and bones. She looked underfed, and like her body stopped growing.

The girl was seven years old but looked to be four.

As soon as Lauren entered the room the girl sprinted to hide.

The girl was just dropped off, left on Lauren's front step.

"Hey, sweetheart." Lauren's voice was soft, trying to coax the girl out from under the bed.

"Baby, can you come out for me? I'm not going to hurt you. You're safe here." The girl just whimpered in response.

"Baby, it's me. I'm your Mommy." Lauren tried to get the girl to look at her. Surely the girl had to recognize her.

Green eyes met green eyes and Lauren's heart broke when she saw the tears streaming down the girl's face.

Lauren reached out her hand, feeling tears fill her eyes as she saw the girl flinch.

She didn't move away, Lauren took this as a sign that she was trying to trust her.

Lauren gently touched the girl's cheek, stroking it.

"I'm your Mommy, baby. Do you remember me?" Lauren asked, her voice soft and gentle.

"M-Mommy." The girl repeated making Lauren's heart swell.

"Yes, baby. I'm your Mommy." Slowly the girl came out from her hiding place, laying on Lauren's lap.

The Cuban watched the little girl rub her eyes, yawning.

She ran her fingers through the girls long hair, wondering if she had ever cut it, since it was so long.

Slowly the girl fell asleep against her mother's lap.

Lauren lifted the girl, surprised by the girl's light weight.

Lauren contemplated calling the cops on her ex for how underweight and fragile the girl looked.

The woman brought the girl to her bedroom, gently laying her down on her bed.

Lauren let the tears fall as soon as she saw the space where the girl's shirt had ridden up. Scattered whip marks, wounds, and scars covered her back.

The woman phoned the police, letting them know about the situation and her ex.

It wasn't until Lauren woke up in the morning that she noticed a wet spot on the bed.

The girl was awake, tears in her eyes at the uncomfortable feeling.

"Oh, baby it's okay. It was an accident." Lauren lifted the girl into her arms, not caring that her clothes got wet.

She changed the bed sheets.
"Shh, there you go, my love." Lauren rubbed the girl's back, bringing her into the bathroom to get her cleaned up.

She started the bath, checking the temperature before undressing the little girl.

Immediately tears formed in the girl's eyes as she pushed Lauren's hands away.

"No wan' play." She muttered.

That made the woman's heart hurt more. She knew what that meant and she hated her ex for teaching her little girl those things; doing those things to her.

"Baby, Mommy isn't going to touch you anywhere bad, okay? She just wants to get you clean. Can mommy undress you?" She asked the girl, wiping her own tears away.
