Aurora and Adam intertwined their hands as the walked through the hallway. If anyone dared to come up to them, it would have been a shock. One could see the tension rolling off of Aurora and how Adam was rubbing circular patterns on the back of her hand.

"So what are you doing after school?" Aurora asked, trying to ignore the stares she felt.

"Well, uh, I've got a doctor appointment...I need to tell you something, though." His eyes sent her a worried glance and she tilted her head to the side.

"What is it?"

"I'll tell you later. After school." He promised, glancing around the hall.

Aurora nodded and the day continued like normal.

Until lunch, that is.

During lunch, Devon came up to the gang's table with a sour look on his face.

"Listen, I'm sorry Aurora, Adam."

Aurora clenched her fists and rolled her eyes. Adam put a comforting hand over hers and squeezed. Their eyes met and they seemed to have a silent conversation.

"Okay, Devon." Adam said.

And Devon walked away, no words left to say.

"You know he doesn't mean it." Aurora hissed, glaring in the direction Devon went.

"I know. But why cause more drama than he's worth?"

The rest of the group seemed to agree with Adam. Katherine and Alexis started talking about Homecoming, which got Aurora to relax a bit.

Then the day continued on in a normal fashion.

Once the final bell rang, Adam and Aurora walked to her truck, fingers laced together.

"Aurora, you know how I have all these doctor appointment?"

"Yes?" she answered, eye brows knitting together.

"Well I have Osteogenesis imperfecta. That means I have very fragile bones. And according to the doctors, it's getting worse." His face held a pained expression and Aurora wanted nothing more than to make it go away.

"Oh, Adam..."

"They say I could have Scoliosis. If I do, I'll have to get surgery."

She could feel tears burning in her eyes. How serious was this?

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." He said, tears forming in his own eyes.

"It's okay, Adam. I'm here, okay?"

"Okay."

And they clung to each other in the parking lot, the rain that had just started drizzling not bothering them one bit.
