Aurora slammed her locker door shut and mumbled under her breath. She hadn't gotten much sleep due to the mysterious text and Adam had called her to tell her that he was out sick for the day. It was one of the worst days Aurora had ever had. She'd smashed her head off of the ground in gym because Katherine had accidentally kicked her feet out from under her. Then she tripped while she walked into Biology and knocked the frog they were dissecting on the floor.
She strode through the hallway keeping her head down. She thanked Zeus that it was the end of the day and she could finally go home. She felt the need to sit down at her desk and scribble down the poem that had been forming in her head all day.
But, of course her phone vibrated and she looked at the the screen.
Unknown Calling
She hit 'ignore' and put her phone away. Aurora hated Unknown callers.
She got in her truck and drove home. Once seated on her couch, she called Adam.
"How are you feeling?" she asked.
"I've been better." he admitted, his voice husky.
"Were you asleep? I'm sorry if I woke you."
"Sleep or my girlfriend? Hmm, I think girlfriend wins. This time, at least."
She smiled and said, "Awe, aren't you the best boyfriend ever? So I wanted to tell you about my horrid day."
"What happened?" he asked, sounding worried.
She described her day for him and there was a pause before he replied.
"I guess I'll have to be at school tomorrow and be your Superman."
"You remind me more of Clark Kent."
"I'll be whoever you want as long as I get to be your hero."
"You're too cute, Adam. Want me to come over and kiss you better so you can be my hero tomorrow?"
"As much as I would love that, I fear you'd get sick. But the promise of your kisses is definitely enough to motivate my going to school tomorrow."
"Oh, don't lie. I know you love school."
"You're correct. And that's what I like about you. You know I love school, even if its weird for teenagers to do so."
Aurora smiled and looked at the clock. "We've been talking for 3 hours."
"I guess that's my cue to say goodbye?"
"I'm afraid so."
"Bye, girlfriend."
"Bye."
Aurora spent the rest of the night scribbling down poems in her notebook and thinking of Adam.
