Aurora pulled into her driveway and looked over to Adam.  He had been silent the whole trip, and she was worried that he still thought that he was a loser.

She cleared her throat and he looked at her.

"We're here," she breathed

Adam nodded and got out of the truck.  He waited for Aurora to lead the way into her house.

She walked up the sidewalk and up a few steps onto a huge porch.  There was white railing around it, a few chairs and tables, and a swing decorating the porch.  She led him to a huge oak door, with some glass windows in it.

"Welcome to the Jones' residence." Aurora said with a smile, as she opened the door.

Adam grinned at her and stepped inside of the house.  It had to have been the most beautiful house that he'd ever seen.  It was a very warm and welcoming place.

"Let's go up to my room.  My dad won't mind."

Adam hesitated, but followed Aurora up the stairs to her room.

He stopped in front of a picture of the family and smiled. They were at the beach and a bucket of water was being poured all over the man.  The girls were obviously laughing at him.

"Are those your parents?" he asked.

Aurora looked back and smiled sadly.  "Yes, but my mother doesn't live here anymore.  She left us."

She didn't know why she'd said it, but she felt like Adam could be trusted.

"I'm sorry."

"It's alright.  Let's just go do the assignment."

Adam nodded and followed her the rest of the way to her room.

"So we're supposed to write a poem about death and rebirth, right?" Adam asked as he sat on her bed.

She nodded and took out a sheet of paper.  She took a seat next to him.

"Any ideas?" she asked.

"None." he replied with a sigh.

"Well, I have one...If you don't mind." she said, biting her lip.

"Go ahead." he urged her.

She wrote down her poem and handed it to Adam.

He started to read the poem silently to himself.

Not Alone

This world we're living in is a crazy place.

Full of war and hate.

I know you feel like you're dying

But you keep quiet and hope that no one suspects a thing.

You just smile and avert your eyes.

You keep the conversation at a slow pace.

You wish someone sees through the act.

You don't wanna face this anymore.

The truth finally sinking in.

He's not coming back again.

You cry yourself to sleep.

He still haunts your dreams.

Who can you lean on?

Who can you trust?

All you know is changing.

You can't see a thing through those tear-filled eyes of yours.

Do you see the light?

You're not alone in this.

Silently you grow and change,

Because nothing ever really stays the same.

You have become alive again,

You know the places you have been.

You rise from the ashes,

And you find some new passions.

You'll never quite be the same,

But at least this way you know you're sane.

He didn't come back,

And you're still a bit off track,

But you'll soon see

That this is what was really meant to be.

Adam looked into Aurora's bright blue eyes and leaned in a bit.

"This is so beautiful." he whispered.

Chills ran up Aurora's spine and she smiled, leaning in closer.

And suddenly, the door burst open to reveal Aurora's father.

They pulled away from each other as fast as possible, and her father blinked, not believing what he was seeing.

"S-Sorry, Aurora.  I just wanted to see what you want for dinner..." he stuttered out, embarrassed.

He closed the door and left Aurora and Adam alone.

The room was eerily quiet until Aurora burst out into uncontrollable laughter.  Adam soon joined her.

They stayed like that for a while until Adam caught sight of the clock.

"It's getting late." he said, "I should go home."

Aurora nodded and grabbed her keys.

"Then let's get to it!" she yelled back as she races down the stairs.

"You're not winning that easily!" Adam called after her, but it was too late.  She was already in the truck.

"Come on!" she whined.

He rolled his eyes and got in the truck.

"Just take me home." he said with a laugh.
