The more time passed, the more I felt the ache for Cassander. It had been almost a full month since I saw him and I knew this would be a challenge, but I had no idea how hard it would be. The worst part wasn't how I felt, but knowing he most likely felt it even more because of what he is, the same way he felt the connection to me stronger than I had before. There were times where I would be in a room alone and my whole body would physically ache and yearn to be held by Cassander again.
The other strange bodily phenomenon I was feeling was uncontrollable dreams about Cassander, but only sexual ones. They were so realistic and intense, the state I woke up in was embarrassing. I knew Liam had to know what was happening to my body because there were many times I knew he was awake when I woke up and he would let me be, but others he would burst into the door.
He tried his best to keep me distracted, but as the days turned to weeks it was becoming unbearable. It was as though I felt an anxiety building and a serious mental breakdown about to happen. I felt tense and like there was a tight band around my stomach to the point where I was having trouble eating.
Cassander communicated as often as he could but it was no longer substantial. My body was craving him, and it was going to make it hell for me to endure. All I wanted, all I could think about was Cassander.
While I thought about him, my body began to heat up, ache, twitch and spasm. My body was beginning to be in a constant state of restless leg syndrome with my limb muscles tensing and aching to be moved. I knew Liam was growing concerned, and soon enough I saw real worry on his face. I felt my body warming more and more to the point where I knew I had a fever. I began to grow concerned myself as I began to consider I could possibly have some sort of sickness.
"Jasper," Liam's voice came from the door.
"Yeah?" I asked, trying to look as calm as I could.
"I think we should check your temperature, you seem like you're not well," he said, worry crossing his face. I nod and he walks over with a digital forehead thermometer. I hear a single beep and he puts the thermometer to my head, a small relief coming when the cold metal is placed on my skin. A moment later two more beeps come and serious concern washes over Liam's facial features.
"How are you even almost okay? Your fever is up to 103.5! Any higher and you'll be in possible stroke territory. We need a medical professional here as soon as possible, okay? Lay down, I'm going to go get the doctor," he says and in a millisecond he is gone. Why was my fever so high? What disease or sickness could I have gotten from these vampires, I wondered.
A moment later, Liam arrives with another vampire by his side. The second, who I assume was the doctor, is a middle aged looking man with short blonde hair combed to the side. I couldn't make out many other specific features as a wave of heat and dizziness fell over my body.
"Doctor, what is wrong with her? How could she have gotten this sick?" Liam asked.
"I am afraid she isn't sick. Her body isn't fighting something off, it's trying to attract her mate," the man said.
"How is that possible? Can a human body even survive the temperatures that werewolf women go through during their heat?" Liam asks, worry covering his face.
"I'm not sure, my lord, but you need to get her mate here or find a way to soothe her pain and bring the fever down as soon as you can," the doctor says.
"Thank you for your help. You may leave," Liam instructs and with a simple nod, the doctor leaves the room.
"Jas, I'm going to call Cassander and see what he wants to do about this situation. I will be back as soon as I can," he says and before I can even speak he is out of my room and into his own. Even though my head is foggy, I can still make out what Liam and Cassander are saying to each other over the phone which must've been on speaker.
