The rift dropped them out around 49,000 feet above the ground, in mid-air. Tristam looked around, seeing nothing but mist.
"Ow!" He was suddenly whacked in the chest by Monstercat, who had caught up with him.
"Oh, hey Tris! Soooo, where is everyone?" "First of all, don't call me that-" The mist cleared, revealing 60 odd people falling through the air.
"Soooooooo.....either we need to learn how to fly in the next 30 minutes or so, or we're all going to die...." Monstercat noted.
Alex pulled out his hammer, and began to fiddle with one part of it. "Alex, could you please stop messing around and help the rest of us?" Mike yelled at him over the wind. "Just a sec! Almost got it—there we are!" An enormous parachute erupted out of the hammer. The Monstercat artists grabbed onto either Alex, someone holding onto Alex, or the parachute itself.
Tristam was holding onto the parachute near Varien and Monstercat. He scanned the area for his friend Braken, but didn't see anyone. "Hey, MCat." "That's not my name." "Whatever. Did you see Braken while we were falling?"
Monstercat shook his head. "Nope. Varien?" "I imagine he doesn't want to be seen right now. Rifts like that one can have....interesting effects on occasion." Tristam contemplated that for a few moments. "Sooo, he might have, like two heads or something?" Varien nodded. "That would be an example."
"BRRRAAAKKKEENNN!!!" Tristam yelled. "I'm right here, genius!" Tristam turned around. Braken was flying up right behind the three of them. "Hey, Braken you don't sound good. Something wrong?" Monstercat asked.
"YES, SOMETHING IS WRONG! I'M A F**KING CHICK, THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG!!!" Tristam winced, and looked back. Sure enough, Braken was a chick(and not too bad looking either, but that was beside the point), and he/she wasn't very happy about it. He swore that Varien was going to crack any moment now.
"OF ALL PEOPLE. WHY ME?? AND WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE—" Braken glanced down at himself/herself. "—THIS?!?!"
"Braken, stop yelling please. You're going to bust my ears." "Sorry." Braken apologized. "Is there a way to fix this?" she asked Varien.
"Ummmmm......no...." Varien answered nervously. Tristam could swear that this was the first time that he'd ever seen Varien actually somewhat frightened. Braken rolled her eyes exasperatedly. "Oh, terrific! I'm stuck as a girl for the rest of my life! Fan-f**king-tastic!"
At that moment, the parachute touched down in a snomy plains, and retracted back into Alex's hammer. Varien and Monstercat pushed through the crowd, while Braken attempted to hide in his hoodie. "Alright, is everyone else in one piece?" Monstercat asked. "No gender changes or anything?" There was a chorus of 'Yes' from the group, except for Braken, who attempted to hide behind Tristam.
"Awesome. Anyone know where we are?" Monstercat asked. No-one answered. "No, but I know where we need to go," Varien answered him. He pointed with a single bony hand off to the south. "If we head in that direction we should find a place with a warmer climate, according to geography."
Monstercat sighed. "Wel, right now geography is the best bet we've got. Follow me(DU DU DUDUDUDU DU DUUUUU, Tristam!), we've probably got a long way to go.
