(A lacuna is an empty space, or void. In the song, lacuna refers is a lost lover. In this chapter, it is a sense of lost hope for their homeland.)
The mountains were completely barren of life. No plants, except a few lichen and moss, and no animals either. Nothing. Just an empty barren wasteland of snow and rock. And blizzards.
Razihel struggled through the ice and wind. The only enemy here was Mother Nature, and she was fairly unhappy at the moment. Hopefully this wouldn't be another Plains of Fire, and they wouldn't have to fight of yetis of ice elementals. Hopefully. No-one(Project 46, 012) was speaking, probably because there was nothing to say, and probably because they wanted to keep warm. Razihel wondered how some of the others were doing, namely Rogue. The guy was only wearing a T-shirt after all, and that was probably doing next to nothing against the cold.
Razihel wondered what would happen to this place once they were gone. Most likely it would become a nightmare version of its' former self, completely overrun by corruption. The thought was slightly terrifying, and also angering. Was Monstercat just trying to avoid a fight on purpose? Then again, he had rarely been wrong in the past, and had never let them down. Razihel was willing to trust him now.
Haywyre was reminded of an event back in Mirai Sekai when Monstercat evacuated their base just to show them something, and then led them back. He might be doing that again, but then another question crossed Haywyre's mind: What would be there in the real world, since they had blown up Mirai Sekai? Another question also puzzled him: How much time has passed in the real world? Time might travel faster of slower in this dimension, or do something else entirely.
Another thought crossed Haywyre's mind: if there was a portal, then they would have to destroy their side of it in order to prevent the Black Hydra from coming through it with his army and wreaking havoc on the real world. That would leave them stranded, unless Monstercat knew of another way out.
Braken was extra cold, mainly because of the wings. First of all, they didn't exactly absorb heat very well, and second, there wasn't any sort of wing-jacket to keep them warm. So, the best she could do was to pull them in close to her body, and pray that this would be over soon.
Everyone knew where Monstercat was taking them, but no-one(yes, again) knew why. Of course, not many people had tried asking him, or thinking about it, mainly because that was hard to do while also trying not to die. So far, no-one(yes, again again) had, and that was extremely fortunate.
Muzzy was more bored than cold. There had been nothing to blow up for the past few days and it was beginning to wear on him. Fortunately, the blizzard let up, and he could see the temple far below. They began descending along a steep narrow pass along the mountainside to the ground below.
There also appeared to be a large dragon guarding said temple. Muzzy rolled his eyes. How cliche', he thought to himself. Another dragon.
