Protostar and the others rushed forward out of their hiding places, and immediately, the place became a battleground. The ravens were caught off guard, and Protostar's rays sliced into them, killing quite a few of them. Rootkit ended up beside him, and the two fought back to back, keeping the ravens away from each other, more out of necessity than friendship.

As the ravens kept coming, part of Protostar's mind wondered who's idea this was in the first place. Going into a forest full of potential enemies didn't sound like a great idea to him. Sacrificing lives for speed also wasn't a good idea. Now they'd be lucky if they got out of this forest alive, and without being mauled by the ravens.

Fractal was also fairly unhappy with the current situation. He and Au5 were in their own little groups, and he could see plenty more of them all around him. Two to four people would separate into little groups, and a corresponding group of ravens would follow them. It was a stalemate. The artists couldn't break away(soulero!) from the fight, and get out of the forest, and the ravens couldn't kill them.

Of course, they could just sit there until they had killed all of the ravens, but that would cost them time that they didn't have. Fractal glanced around quickly. Where had Braken and Rezonate got to? Right. Monstercat had sent them on ahead to scout. "Austin, keep me covered for a moment. I'm gonna try something." Au5 nodded, and Fractal sat down and tried reaching out with his mind.

Hey, Braken, we kinda need you back here.

Ah, don't scare me like that! What for?

We're kinda being attacked by a bunch of corrupted ravens. Any help would be appreciated.

Right, right. I'll meet up with Rezonate and get back to you.

Au5 saw Fractal get up(hellberg! 012!) again, and get back into the fight. "So, how'd it go?" he asked. Fractal was silent for a few moments. "Braken and Rezonate are on their way, hopefully." Au5 nodded, and refocused his attention on not dying. Hopefully, their two flying friends could help get them out of this mess.

Braken and Rezonate heard the ravens long before they saw them. There was a huge cloud of the things hovering above where they assumed their friends were, and they were covered in corruption. She saw Rezonate dive straight for the ravens, and toast quite a few of them with fire. Fire. The ravens were weak to fire, which Braken had none of.

"Rez! They're weak to fire! And acid! And probably a lot of other things!" Rezonate acknowledge her, and dove beneath the black cloud, probably to go inform the other. Sure enough, several beams of fire blasted upwards, burning the ravens to ashes(that was more of a pun than intended, if you remember the lyrics).

The carnage allowed Monstercat an opening to get them out of there, and he motioned them to run forward. Hopefully the ravens wouldn't try to follow, but they were under the control of corruption, and that would make things more difficult. Monstercat could see the edge of the forest, and raced towards it.

He reviewed the next segment of their journey in his head They would have to pass over the mountain ring known as the Ring of Icestone that surrounded their destination, much like a ring-within-a-ring. First a ring of fire, and now a ring of ice. Monstercat sighed, mainly to himself. It was almost like nature itself was trying to stop them.

He stood up again, and the group began walking towards the mountains.
