Just Something with Caffeine : Part 3/Final {Grumbo} (Coffee Shop AU)

{Mumbo POV}

Shoot shoot shoot!! I thought, how did I not realize that today was a long day?! The bus squeaked to a halt as I ran off it in the direction of the shop. I ran in through the door not having time to catch my breath.

"You good?" Asked a girl in a blue denim hoodie.

But I didn't have time to answer. "Is-" I was about to say the name of the person from yesterday, but I couldn't for the life of me remember. It didn't help that I was out of breath. "Brunette, red, short,"

Somehow, they understood but my heart broke on impact of the words. "So, you're the guy Gri was waiting for? Not cool dude. And he left half an hour ago."

"Oh, I see." I couldn't think of what to say, luckily the other at the counter did.

"Would you like to order what you got last time?" He had really big eyes (not in a derogatory way of course!) "Grian told me what it was if yo-"

"No thank you, but do you know what days he does work?" I interrupted. I felt so bad for leaving the person, who now knew he was named, Grian, standing there (probably literally.)

The two looked at each other after I asked my question, as if asking each other if they should answer it or not. "He will probably be back in two days; tomorrow is his off day."

"Thank you, so much." I thank he two before heading out in defeat.

I feel like a jerk. I said internally. Well, I better head to the store really quick, I don't think I have anything for dinner at home.

{Grian POV}

I walk outside to the nearest store grumbling about the fact I stayed late for a no-show. But whatever, at least I had Maui and Pearl to keep me company. I don't need some cool Redstone-Engineer to be friends with anyways! I have my coworkers, like Scar and his cat! Or BDubs and Pearl, (who, unfortunately, isn't my one of my amazing cats.)

I can't believe the nerve some people have!

This is why I will never try redstone!

I did double my hours!!

And now I'm out of cat food, I wish I could give them cereal but that probably would make them sick, and I would actually cry if one more thing bad happened today.

"HEY WATCH OUT!!" I hear a voice shout. Pulling me back by my wrists and pulling me back into reality, I look forward to see a honking car as it speeds past my face. The velocity of the car made my hair go blow in the same direction as well.

I turn around to look at the person who just saved my life. They dressed nice, wore black shoes, a black suit and- "It's you!" I yelled.

"It's-" he stuttered. "It's you,"

As soon as I was about to open my mouth, the tall dude beat me to it. "I'm so sorry about today-" he said. "I totally forgot I had to work long hours and as soon as I got out, I ran to the bus. But then the Bus took a wrong turn and it got lost for fifteen PAINFULLY long minutes! Then when I got to the stop I was supposed to get off at, I ran to the coffee shop you work at, but they said I barely missed you. And-" he paused his long rant of explanation. "Are you crying?"

"No!" I said wiping some DEFFINITELY NOT TEARS from my eyes. "You're crying!"

"Look, I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it while you were working, but I swear I can make it up to you."

The person who -if I remember correctly- was named Mumbo, somehow made it annoyingly hard to say no, just by existing, but honestly, "I'm sorry, give me a second. Too much has happened today, like- at first, I got made fun of by my coworkers who I thought where my friends, (not cool.) Then I get stood up, (no offense.) Then when I go home to relax my cats were out of food, (so the I had to walk to the store and still do.) And then I almost got hit by a car-!"

"Oh my god, I almost got hit by a car..." It didn't really weigh on me until now.

Somehow it only dawned on the jumbled mumble that is Mumbo Jumbo, because the next thing I heard from his mouth was, "You alm- OH DEAR GOD- Areyouallright?! Doyouneedanything?!"

Without thinking I ask, "How long do you think could get me off work for?"

Mumbo paused then chuckled a bit. "A day and a half-ish, give or take."

"That'll do for me then!" I chuckle. "Since we're heading in the same direction do you want to want together? I'll let you listen in on the call I make to my boss!"

"Sure, just don't walk into any cars, okay?"

We both laugh a bit before continuing our walk.

{Slight Time Skip, Grian}

"I'm sorry, I must've miss heard you-" Cleo shouted. "YOU ALMOST GOT HIT BY A CAR?!?!?!"

"Yeah, so I was wondering if I could swap half of my shift for Monday???" I said hopefully.

A small sigh came through the phone. "Fine, but you better not be late again. Stay safe Gri."

"I'll try! Goooood bYe!"

Mumbo and I chuckled a bit as we walked. "I can't believe that worked! Any longer and I'm pretty sure she would've said no,"

"But you heard your boss, stay safe. So don't run into any more cars-" Mumbo joked.

"You're never going to let me live this down, will you."

"Probably not," Mumbo smiled.

"What were you even doing out at night anyways?" I ask, curiously.

"Oh, you know, getting some food from the nearby shops, saving you from cars-"

"Ha. Ha." I said with a straight face. "You make it seem like Thunder McClean attempted to kill me," Despite only knowing Mumbo for less than a week, it somehow felt like we knew each other since forever!

"Also, not to be obsessive," I glance at Mumbo. "But do you want to eat dinner at my place instead? I mean I do owe you after all."

"Really?" I nod happily as Mumbo looked at me confused. "Sure!"

I know I said that if one more bad thing happened to me, I'd cry; but I think this might have been one of the best things I've ever accidentally did.

(if enough people like this I can make a sequel chapter where Mumbo and Grian have dinner together :) this was intended to be read as two people being bro's but feel free to read it however you like!)
