I found myself inside his black and white BMW car. He started the engine. I was checking my phone to get myself distracted. But I found nothing interesting so I put it back on my bag.

Suddenly, my eyes went to a book. The book was Nicholas Sparks' book, The Return.

"You're reading this?" I asked.

"Yeah," he replied as his eyes were focused on the road.

"I didn't peg you for a guy who read romantic novels."

"I didn't peg you for a woman who discriminates guys reading romantic novels."

"Touché."

It was actually unexpected for him. Of course, I was surprised.

"Is it bad for us men to read novels with that kind of genre?"

"No," maagap kong kontra. "I don't mean it that way."

"Okay. What genre you expect me to read then?"

"I don't know. It depends on you."

"Erotic novels?"

"Like Fifty Shades of Grey?"

He chuckled. Now that sounded sexy. "I haven't read that though."

"Really? But what about that film? Did you watch it?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Not interested."

"I see." Tumango tango ako. This was actually the longest conversation we had.

"How old are you again?" I asked curiously, shifting the topic.

"18," he replied. "Are you seriously bothered with that?"

"Of course. Who wouldn't be? You're the same age as my brother."

"That's harsh. Isn't it wrong to be friends with young guy?

"Why? Do you want to be friends with me?"

"Yeah. Is it too much to ask?"

"You know the answer, Lander. It's too complicated."

"I don't care," he firmly said. "I only want to be friends with you."

"That's impossible given the circumstances we have."

"So if we're on a different situation? Would there be anything different?"

"Yes. I can be friends with you."

"That's what holding you back?"

I sighed heavily. I wouldn't be able to win in this conversation. But I think I should tell him this.

"Lander." He glanced to me. "What you're doing..." I bit my lower lip.

He glanced at me. "What? I'm not doing anything yet."

"Stop being so nice to me when you're fighting on my brother behind my back. I may not be involved with your feud, partially I am. So whatever you want to propose, we can never be friends."

This was the best for the both of us.

He didn't respond but I could see how he tightly gripped the steering wheel.

Tumahimik na lang din ako at tumingin na lang sa binta hanggang sa mapansin kong nasa subdivision na kami malapit. Ibinaba niya ako sa gilid katulad no'ng nakaraan.

"Thank you," I told him.

"Welcome. See you." He flashed a smile. Didn't he understand what I mean a while ago?
