To the reader (whoever you may be):
My name is not important, it might fog up my note to you. This particular book is a special one. Behind the tale of sickness and zombies, is a story of two children.
Two or three years ago on the fourth of July, my best friend and myself decided to write a novel. We had been talking about it for quite some time. And the goal was to finish it in 365 days. We succeeded.
Maybe it was one chapter every two weeks and then nine more in a day, but it was fun. Yeah, the story at points was stupid and the grammar was atrocious, but something about doing a big project like this with her was extraordinary.
While writing, our lifelong friendship underwent a huge change. We were kids. Nowadays, I don't talk to her anymore. She doesn't speak to me, either. The only thing that we had in the end was Fungi. And it is the thing that I have now that it is over.
You might notice that some of the characters sound similar. Here's why:
I wrote for                        she wrote for
-------                          ------------
Alex.                                  Violet
Josh.                                  Zoe

So, I hope it's not too obvious. We did other things after fungi, but it was never the same. She was in the process of moving and finding work. I wanted to work on solo projects such as The storm room and three's a party.
I just wanted to give you an inch of context before you continue. Before there was Alex and Violet, there was her and I.
Enjoy.
