The next day I start to pack my things and Mary Ann wakes. Josh is in a dead sleep so I coloured on his face. Mary Ann glided over to me and placed a slightly wrinkled hand on my shoulder.
“Hunny, If that girl was in danger, do ya think she would want you to go after her and be in danger also?” She wanted me to stay, and I wanted to.
“Mary, I like to think she would do the same for me. I know you want the best for us but I need to know where she is, or if she is dead.”
Mary Ann laughed, “That one? Dead? Violet wouldn’t go down without a blaze of fire behind her and destruction at her feet! Listen babydoll, don't go after her.”
I couldn’t suppress a smile when she talked about her, and I finished packing. No matter what she said I still had to find Violet. I wait till twilight before I leave. The trees were covering the stars but I could just glimpse the moon.. no, wait, that is a light. Fire flashes in my vision and a dead man is burning from a streetlight. Not any man, the guy that Josh was with. I turn my head to see that they're everywhere. I’m guessing that I am on a street because about sixteen other people I knew from the museum were hanging. Just hanging.
One little boy was swinging and these mushroom like things were starting to grow out of his ears, nose, mouth and eyes. The fungus was molding on his purple hands and his fingernails were black. The little boy had a blank expression. It sickened me to look at him because I recognised this boy from the museum. A slight movement caught my eye, a woman, Jain Newman was twitching. She had the same mushrooms only hers were more severe. An eerie groan came from the deafening silence. It wasn’t a normal groan, this one sounded airy and empty. Like a ghost was panting softly.
“Miss?” I silently hoped I wouldn’t get a reply. Her hand started to lift and grip the rope. The fungus seemed to push out of the holes and into the light, making the woman look even more horrible and taken over. Her hand continued to claw at her rope and all I could do was stand there, watching as the flesh left on her hands was replaced with nasty dark blood. Eventually I broke from the trance and ran back to where I was.
I burst through the door of the gas station and was met with Blake holding a shotgun in my direction, once he sees it’s me he lowers his gun and motions to the back where Mary Ann hugs me tightly and starts to scold on how I could have died a horrible death and, “I have lost so many of my other babies and I will not lose you, understand?”
I told her about what happened and she teared up. She told me to never go down there again and whoever could do that to a person could surely do it to me. She broke the news to Josh that his brother is dead and he just stood there with a helpless expression on his face.
"Don't leave any time soon, ok?" She ordered. I nodded.
24 hours now, guess who isnˋt here. That's right, Violet. I’m going to kick her ass next chance I get for letting us worry like this. If she comes back.
