(Alex)
Darkness… Only darkness. My mind warps as I try to remember where I am. The fog clears and I am in a house, Mother tells me to get my shoes on and I follow her, mama has been giving my toys away for money so the shoes I found were my snow boots for wintertime. Mama closes the door of my bare room as she leads me to the car. The only thing here is a picture of daddy.
My long, red hair bounces under my cap and mom is muttering to herself about how she had no choice and that she would be better off like this. I push my small body into the car. Mommy picks up her phone and makes a call,
“Hello? Yes, this is Diane and I am heading to the airport now. Are you sure this will repay his debt? Yes? That's great. Thanks, I will speak with him when I get there. Have a nice day.”
Mom puts down the phone and looks back at me. She smiles and tells me that I will make her and others very happy. We get to the airport and mom grabs my arm. She pulls me with her inside and she walks toward a man who smiles at me. His teeth are weird and his scrubble is apparent. Mama tosses me to him and I’m scared. I run back to her but she scolds me and says to behave. “How old is she? Does she have any diseases and fill out her personality report.” He hands mommy a paper and a pen tied to a board. She fills it out and hands it to the man who looks it over and sneers at me. He grabs a black bag from a chair and hands it to mommy. Her red hair goes with her blue eyes as they stare holes in my head. She quickly leaves me behind with the man who goes the opposite way. I am pulling to go back with mom as he picks me up and puts me on his shoulders, he smiles and looks at people to make it seem like he is my father. He loads me into another car and starts driving.
After awhile He gets a phone call and starts talking.
“Yes I have it, when do you want to pick it up to take it to the shipping deck? Alright man. Here let me text Rodriguez."
He looks down and texts. I hear a horn and the car jolts forward and hits a deep ditch. His airbag goes off and my door pops open. I get out and start running, I sprint until I reach a town with nobody there except a middle aged black woman leading a group of children through a deserted neighborhood to a park. I am so tired. I trudge to the lady and she ran towards me.
“Where did you come from, lil’ lady. My name is Mary Ann, what's yours?” She asks, her aura is soothing and her voice is sweet.
“ My name is Alexa..” She seemed to darken and said, “Alex?" The other children have gathered around me.
“ Mommy said my name sounds pretty!”
“ Cmon, sugar, let's take you home.”
She leads me to a big building, the museum.
“ Welcome home, Alex.”
We walk inside and there's a girl sitting in the lobby. She looks up at me silently.
Glass shatters, people scream, fire spreads. I feel a pain in my back and I turn to see the man who put me in the car. I scream and scream till my voice breaks.
My eyes open to a forest. Mary Ann is singing softly and Josh is yelling for violet in the distance. Mary says, “ You're awake, thank God you’re awake.”
