(Alex)

I have to talk to Violet about this. I just can’t get it out of my head, He just passed the moment by showing me a ring! And Mary Ann just laughed at me, wait.. where is Violet anyway? I checked the counter, but it was just her friend. The boy looked at me and I asked if he had seen Violet. The answer was that she left to go outside.

I burst through the back door and started running in some direction. I ran and ran as fast as I could. My bag bumped around my back and I silently thanked all the deities out there that I left the vial of nitroglycerin at the gas station. I ran and ran but ultimately I came back and told Mary Ann what happened. She said that Violet most likely went on a scavenging trip by herself and will be back very soon. I didn’t believe her, but I wanted everyone to keep calm .

Josh had exited the bathroom and I noticed that the condom dispenser was opened and none were left. Not like he’ll need any, I can't think of any good woman who would let him screw them. Especially since his most prized possession is a ring from a children's cartoon. Josh is reading a model magazine with what's-his-name and Mary Ann is playing with the pitbull. I join her and Lola sniffles with her pitbull face. Mary Ann scoots towards me and hugs me softly, careful not to break my stitches.

“Sugar, why do these dogs have scrunchy faces?” She asked me, the wonder apparent on her chocolate eyes.

“A bunch of rich people bred pitbulls together, shallowing the gene pool. Until the doggies had a bunch of medical thingies and couldn’t breathe.” I answered.

I could tell she was desturbed deeply. She held Lola, who was making devil noises and panting. Mary Ann hadn’t changed out of her sunflower dress since the fire. We all haven’t. You could grease a car with my head. Scratch that, two cars.

Violet still didn’t return after 5 hours since her disappearance. I am very worried and wonder if I will ever see her again. If she is in trouble, I don’t know what I’ll do.

Six hours turn to seven. Seven turns to eight. Eight turns to nine. I confront Mary Ann again. She is sleeping soundly by Lola, Her gentle breaths hum quietly.

“Mary...hey..Mary Ann?” I whisper.

She mutters, almost silently, “Avery?”

“Uhh, nooo. This is Alex? Violet is still gone.”

“Oh. Well, kick her booty when she gets back. Ok? Now, go to bed hun.”

And just like that, she fell back asleep.
I have to admit, I did not sleep for even a moment that night.
