CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
OLD HABITS DIE HARD
⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙FOR THE PAST FEW HOURS, TANYA HAD CAUGHT HERSELF SOME SLEEP. Keyword: some. It'd been great until the sound of roaring engines woke her up. Nearly falling out of her chair upon seeing a '69 Mustang emerge from the elevator doors. Then came the people helping park the cars in the large penthouse. Giving enough room so that everyone could move through with ease.
But by the time they got the Daytona into the room, Tanya already wanted to go back to bed. She'd gotten a lot of work done with playing some catch and release with the component. Bouncing it around to different locations frequently to help buy them some extra time. And since then, she's been ready to rent a hotel room and just sleep for the rest of the day. Maybe even have a nice warm bath to soothe her aching muscles.
"Hey, you okay?" Luke placed a warm hand on her shoulder. And for the rest in a while, Tanya reciprocated it by grabbing his hand and holding it tightly.
She couldn't find the strength to smile. But she was able to nod stiffly. "Yeah," she sighed. "I'll be fine when this is all over."
He hummed and let her hold onto his hand longer. They'd been so starved of one another that it would only be sooner or later one of them cracked and sought the other out. Tanya wasn't afraid to admit that she was that person. After her talk with Dom last night, she felt the need to try and ease herself back with Luke. There was a lot of healing that had to go on between them, and she was willing to try if they took it slow.
A tiny smile formed on Tanya's lips as she looked up at her husband. "Yesterday, the girls received A's during their spelling bees," she announced. "They were so proud of it."
Luke chuckled softly as he leaned against the table she was sitting at. "They barely tell me how good they've been doing at school anymore," he chuckled. "It's good to know they're taking after their mother."
There was a whole wave of sadness that came with his statement. It clued Tanya in on the fact that her lack of presence with her daughters, things hadn't been easy for him. Before Tanya and Luke met, all he had to deal with was Sam. It was easy. But now, he had two children to look after. He had to try and get them both to school on time and grab them after work. Prepare supper for them and get their lunches ready for school. A whole fiasco that Tanya would do willing so he could handle work.
