CHAPTER NINE
PROMISES
⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙

The warmth of Luke's body flushed against Tanya's back was all she could feel. A warmness not only all over her body but within her body. Her mind running through her thoughts, denying her the sleep she'd most likely desperately need.

Holding Luke's hand that held her body close to him. It was a comfort Tanya had been wanting for so long. Just being this close to Luke felt amazing to her since they both admitted their feelings to each other. All the intoxication in Tanya's body flushed away the moment Luke held her closely as he slept.

It felt like a dream to Tanya if she was being honest. Not in a million years did she ever think this would become a thing between them. She just found it quite flooring that he told her upfront other than not telling her.

No one had been able to get through to Tanya like Luke had and it scared her. She was putting her love and care into not only one person, but her daughter. At any moment, either of them could be pulled away from her and she'd be left with nothing except herself. Something she knew very well, but hated every second of it.

Carefully, Tanya moved Luke's protective arm away from her body and got up. Picking up a large t-shirt from Luke's floor and slipped it on before moving into the kitchen and living room. Pouring herself a cup of tea and sitting in the living room.

A chair by the window was where she resided in as she stared out the window. She didn't know what time it was and didn't exactly care as she watched cars drive past the apartment building. Just sitting in her thoughts as she sipped the green tea that would hopefully help her go back to sleep.

Luke stirring awake as he reached for Tanya, but finding the right side of his bed empty. Sitting up, he looked around and spotted the woman nowhere. Getting out of bed, Luke slipped on some boxers and walked out of his bedroom finding the woman.

Silently sitting by herself and staring out the window. Not having noticed him yet, Luke walked over and hugged her back. Kissing the back of her neck softly, getting Tanya to hum in content with a smile.

"Everythin' alright?" He asked softly and Tanya smiled, but it wasn't one that reached her ears. One that was unsure as she placed her cup down and turned to the man. "What are we?" She mused and Luke was at a loss of words from the sudden question.

He stood there, not sure of what to say as Tanya continued to question. "Who's Sam's mother and why isn't she with you anymore?" She asked and Luke sighed.

Turning his back to the woman who bit her lip. Stepping close to him so his back was flush to her back. Wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her head against his muscular back. She didn't want to ask those questions, but they were desperately needed questions. If Tanya wanted to trust Luke, then she needed to know his past.

Sure, she could easily just figure it out by going through his files, but she wanted to hear it from him. Something about hearing it from someone other than reading it meant a lot more. Tanya wasn't trying to be nosey, but she needed to know.

"Sam's mother left after she was born," Luke muttered as he held the woman's hands. "Left without saying a word and I took the responsibility of taking care of the girl." He explained and turned to the woman. Seeing the sympathy in her eyes as they stared at each other. "She was the only woman I loved fully and wanted to have kids with," Luke told Tanya who nodded as she listened intently.

Luke bit his lip, uncertain of how his next words would come out, but still decided to say them. "I can't trust anyone anymore after what she did." He muttered and Tanya stared at him, an unreadable expression on her face. "I don't want Sam to get hurt, and I don't want to either."

His words echoed in Tanya's ears as she stared at him. A hopeful look in his eyes that Tanya couldn't understand. If he was saying that he was scared of letting her in, Tanya wouldn't hurt him. No way in hell would she ever hurt him, or Sam. They were close to her and Ana so she wouldn't pull them away from Ana even if Tanya and Luke hit a bump in the road.

Tanya cared too much about Luke to hurt either Hobbs. Not to mention, if Tanya became close with Sam, she wouldn't be like Sam's real mother. She wouldn't leave the girl without an explanation or letter of where she went.

Cupping the man's face, Tanya smiled softly. "I would never hurt you or Sam." She told him softly. "I care about you two too much to do such a thing," Tanya said as she rubbed her thumb slowly across his cheekbone.

Making sure to take in all his features to try and see if they would tell her anything that he was thinking. Only seeing a softness and love in his eyes as they stared at each other unwaveringly. "I only trust you." She told him, her index finger pointing into his chest. "I only love you and that won't change. You, Sam, and Ana are all I need and care about." She finished as she smiled softly at.

A chuckle escaping Luke's lips as she held her waist softly. "I love you." He whispered, bringing their lips together. Utter elation rushing through Tanya as she kissed the man back without question. Finding herself moulding into him for warmth and strength.

From all the pain and suffering Tanya had seen and been through, this, this right here was all worth it. If she'd never been captured, then she'd never been saved by Luke. Then if she'd never signed that paper, she'd never have gotten to meet people who would become her friends and have her daughter.

But the most important part of this entire thing was that she met someone who claimed her heart. Luke Hobbs was Tanya O'Conner's shining beacon in the darkness of her life.
