CHAPTER THIRTEEN
REMEMBER
⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙

Night had settled in and the silence of the favela had Tanya's head on a swivel. Following the trio through the streets and alleys between buildings. She didn't lie when she told them Luke had surveillance on every road. They had access to surveillance and to monitor to see if they could spot Dom or Brian.

But here Tanya was, helping the people she was hunting. God, how much things can change so quickly. Just by the snap of her fingers, things changed quickly and she was now an enemy to Luke. And she already knew how tough it was going to be for her to face him. His and her kids were back home and it felt like she was leaving them behind. Ana and Sam were the most important people in her life besides Brian and Luke. And Tanya was questioning why she was helping her brother when he clearly hated her.

The distant chatter of kids and adults alike could be heard in the streets. The group standing out like a sore thumb from the rest of the city. Tanya had taken the liberty of walking at the back of the group and keeping their backs covered. So, her head was on a swivel the entire time in the search of a place to hunker down in and figure out a plan. That'd also been a little thought in Tanya's mind, but she never dwelled on it for too long.

Her thoughts were cut off by Mia who fell back in step to walk beside the blonde. It was a weird sort of tension evident for Tanya and she didn't like it. She was going to be an auntie, but the woman her brother was having kids with was a complete stranger to Tanya. They'd never met until a few hours ago and they could have different opinions on each other as of right now.

"I just want to say thank you for helping us back there." Mia broke the silence, looking at the blonde who didn't look at her. "It means a lot and with the baby, I just want to make sure it's safe. Same goes for Brian and Dom," Mia explained and Tanya sighed. "Mia, it's no problem, alright? Let's just worry about finding a place to bunker down for the night, yeah?" Tanya didn't mean to sound mean, but she was just worried about getting out of the streets.

As of right now, word had no doubt gone around about the group's presence and it no doubt was going to cause them problems. It really made Tanya wish for an evac or something to get her the hell out of the city.

"You know he used to talk about you all the time." Tanya's eyes snapped to Mia who stared at Brian. "Told me how you two and a friend had stolen a car and gone on a joyride." She said and Tanya smiled. "Yeah, and we crashed it and left. Turned out it was our principal's car." Tanya laughed softly as she replayed the fond memory. Her best times were as a kid and with Roman and Brian. Those were some of Tanya's highlights in her life. Just free from all the problems as a kid and just living her life to the fullest.

But things changed and she'd changed overall. Her brother changed and was now a target of interest from her boyfriend and their friends. They weren't the same siblings who helped stand up for each other on the school grounds. Now, they stood on opposite sides of a line that was so bold a space station could see it. Both so opposite to how they were that neither of them could recognize each other.

And what hurt Tanya the most was all the time ripped away from her when her brother became a cop. Getting Roman arrested and leaving Tanya alone to try and stand on her own. That's what led her to Russia where she could feel like she mattered, but not for the right cause. Luke made her realize that and soon made her realize that being with him was all that mattered to her.

"Yeah, well..." Tanya mumbled, averting her eyes forward. "Things change and we aren't brother and sister anymore." She said coldly, picking up her pace and leaving a stunned Mia behind her. There was no reason for Tanya to play nice. They didn't know each other and she was just speaking the truth. She and Brian were barely even considered siblings and she was able to accept that.

The group walked in silence for a while before they came to a vacant house. Dom kicking open the chained up gate where the group entered the house. Once Tanya stepped inside, she immediately stopped the group. Placing her index in front of her lips to silence them as she grabbed her pistol. Cautiously checking each room to make sure they were truly safe. It'd been a back thought, but Tanya had been wondering who those mercenaries belonged to.

When she gave them the okay, they all got into relaxing. Although Tanya would like to, she just couldn't do so. Just sitting in the living room with her gun on her lap as she decided to keep watch for the group. Brian and Dom having taken some beers from the fridge in the kitchen and began drinking them on the balcony near the living room. Mia was passed out on a chair with a blanket around her to keep warm.

Tanya's eyes stayed glued to the door that could open and anyone could appear. Anxious of the fact that any stranger or owner could step in and she'd have to do either tie them up or kill them. And as much as the second option would be the best, she knew her brother would only hate her more.

The track of time was lost by Tanya since all she did was stare at that door. Not even noticing her brother walked back inside and took a seat beside her. It was then she noticed the feeling of his eyes burning into her body and it annoyed her a lot. "If you are going to say something, say it. Don't fuckin' stare." She snarled, averting her eyes to her brother. He didn't say anything at first, clearly trying to find the right words to speak. "What happened to you?" He questioned and Tanya scoffed coldly.

"Many things, Brian. From you joining the police force to you ratting on Roman." She fired back with no sense of regret. She didn't regret her words. It was truly the reason why she went down the path she did. "You know I didn't rat on Rome. He's our best friend." Brian stated and again, Tanya scoffed as she shook her head in disbelief.

"And you think you're any better? You're working with the police." He pointed out and Tanya felt her hand tighten on the gun in her hand. "If you knew half of what I've been through then you would understand that I had no choice. But you don't understand. You're going against the oath you swore to never break and look where you are. Where Mia— who might I add is pregnant with your child— is." Tanya snapped as her brother fell loss of words. "You got her into this situation and you can't do anything to stop it. And when she's put into prison, that's on your hands. And when that baby is born and taken away, that will be another chip on your shoulder you'll have to accept."

Her words were full of malice, anger, hatred all directed towards her brother. Truly, Tanya hated him and that wouldn't change until he could pull some magic out of his ass and change it. Because as of right now, he was doing a piss poor job of repairing anything between the.

She leaned in so her voice was just above a whisper. Wanting Brian to understand and hear her words clear as day so he could let them settle in. "Trust me. When push comes to shove, you better be able to accept the possibility." She hissed before standing up and leaving the older O'Connor to watch her disappear into a bedroom. Letting her words settle in and keep him up for most of the night.
