I couldn't find out when or where they first met each other, but I know they met before Lewis was promoted to Formula 1 and I found a pic of them form 2006 so I'm just choosing that year
I didn't prove read this but when do I ever so I hope you enjoy :)
POV Michael
~2006~
He already knew Lewis Hamilton would become great, when he had seen that young man win the GP2 championship in 2006. He had seen the sparkle and the desire in the young man's eyes. Looking into that face full of passion reminded Michael of himself a little bit and he couldn't wait to see what the future held for the young Brit.
~2007~
Lewis' rookie season was impressive. Almost winning the championship and outscoring his two time wdc teammate. Michael felt a sense of pride filling him watching that season.
He first properly met Lewis at the price giving ceremony, the young driver already lightly tipsy he was sulking, blankly staring into the air.
"Shouldn't you be celebrating? You just finished your first F1 season and you finished 2nd young man no need to sulk"
Michael watched the youngsters eyes go big while he was talking.
"You're Michael Schumacher!"
Michael chuckled it was amusing as it was annoying. Lewis however was entertaining. Michael took it as a great honor that so many youngsters in F1 and the junior categories looked up to him it was just a lot to take in. And if him just talking to Lewis could cheer the young man up he would do it again in a heartbeat.
"And you're Lewis Hamilton."
"I didn't think you'd know who I am"
"Too drunk to remember Meeting me last year?", Michael winked "You know, in a couple of years time i think there will be a lot more people who will know your name" at that point Michael hadn't known just how right he was.
~2008~
When Lewis became the youngest worldchampion in 2008 Michael felt like a proud dad. The youngster was over the moon of course and Michael had a hard time keeping him grounded until Lewis' dad was there to take over.
Lewis had told him about the nervous jiggers he had felt ever since he set a foot in his car today and Michael had patiently listen.
That young kid reminded him so much about himself it was unbelievable.
~2010~
Michael expected Lewis to at least be a little disappointed his record for youngest wdc got broken so quickly but he wasn't.
When Michael went to congratulate Seb after the race, he found the german in parc ferme with his arms full of Lewis jumping up and down. The young brit basically couldn't stop smiling and Michael couldn't lie, he was surprised. He still remembered the first time he met Lewis right after the 2007 season ended. The younger man sulking with some sort of alcohol in his hand staring at the bar table.
He was really happy though that his two grid kids got along so well.
~2016~
After having a short chat with Toto and congratulating Nico on his title he quickly made his way to Lewis' driver room. Michael just wanted to give the young brit a hug and some motivational words.
He was sure Lewis could need them. When he opened the door however the person comforting Lewis wasn't Angela or his dad, no the person standing in front of Lewis, his hands on the brits cheeks and his face only centimeters away from Lewis whisphering something Michael couldn't understand, was no other than Sebastian Vettel.
He smiled softly to himself. It was certainly a surprise, but then on the other hand these two had always been close. He knocked on the open door to draw their attention away from each other.
Seb and Lewis immeadiately seperated from each other, both looking at him with wide eyes.
"Well I thought you might need some comfort, but I see you are in good hands already so I'm guessing my presence is no longer necessary?"
It was amusing to watch the blush spread across their faces.
"You two do know you could've told me about whatever that is between the two of you? Now come here the both of you"
The two drivers looked at each other for a second before smiling and walking over to Michael to hug him. The older man happily wrapped his arms about both his protégés.
~2020~
2020 was a great year, if you let out the pandemic. His son won the F2 worldchampionship and got a seat in F1 and Michael wasn't able to believe it. He thought he was about to burst from pride. When Mick crossed the line he had wanted to grab his engineers microphone and just scream at him how proud he was. Of course he had always hoped his children would love his passion, but he didn't expect them to go professional in them. His wife had laughed at him for jumping up and down like a kid and he swirled her around in celebration.
Michael almost couldn't believe it. The teenager he watched become the GP 2 Champion in 2006 was now tied on Championships with him. He had known from the start that Lewis Hamilton was someone Special. He Always said that records are there to be broken and Lewis was the perfect prove for that. Lewis had broken so many records, MiIchael had lost track of them. Yet the Brit was still hungry for more and Michael admired him more than anything for that.
That young kid he had met 13 years ago had grown into a man. A man that tried to be the best version of himself every single day. Lewis always stayed true to his roots and Michael knew how hard that was when you're high on emotions.
After walking in on them once Michael had learned to knock. Seb and Lewis hugging and cheering each other up was one thing, but he didn't need to see either of them naked.
So when the door opened and Lewis almost jumped into his arms, Michael knew the other one was as fond of him as he was. He'd always have a soft spot for Lewis, but also for Seb.
"Thank you, thank you for everything you've done for me"
~2021~
Michael couldn't be more proud of Mick. Of course he had been proud and happy when his son had picked up karting as a child, but he would've never pushed his son into the same profession he had chosen.
If someone would've told him ten years ago that his son would finish his first f1 season ten years later he would've laughed at them.
They went to congratulate Max together, having a Little Chat with him. Michael couldn't help himself but Question how fast the time had gone by. He could still remember Max and Mick playing together in the dirt. Now one had finished his first Formula 1 season and the other one was a first time worldchampion. It was unbelievable.
He left the two friends to catch up and went to search for Lewis. He couldn't imagine what it would feel like for the other.
Michael found him in his driver room it felt like a deja vú of 2016, just worse. Lewis' dad was there an arm around his son, talking to him, while Seb was hugging Lewis tight to his chest. It was the Sound of a sob that finally broke Michael.
"Lewis?"
Three pairs of eyes were staring at him now. A few seconds later Michael's arms were full of a crying Lewis.
"It's going to be alright. You will get that eight title. If not you then who else? Can't have you share the number one place with me alright?"
The joke at the end got a small chuckle out of Lewis, cheeks still stained with tears, but his smile was back and that was all that mattered.
Michael knew all too well it would take Lewis longer to get over this defeat, but he also knew that once Lewis got over it he will come back stronger than ever.
