Once we pulled into the driveway to the house, there was another truck parked outside which I became pretty familiar with, it was William Wayland's. "Oh boy," I said out loud as I turned the engine off.
"What is it,"Emma asked. "Whose truck is that."
"That, is William's truck," I said starting to get out of the car and Emma did the same. "And if Derik is still here this isn't going to be good."
"Um, the William that saved you," she asked as we were walking to the door.
"Yes, and Derik and him already seem kinda jealous of each other," I said opening the door.
"Oh, I see. So they're probably already butting heads," she said as we were taking our coats off. I nodded. I could hear talking coming from the living room and I started making my way there and Emma followed. I stood there in the doorway for a minute taking in the scene I was looking at. Derik was sitting on the sofa looking nervous as ever, and William was sitting not to far from him in the chair petting my cat Salem, who seemed to be happy as ever.
"Good evening Abigail," William said with a sweet smile, which made me want to smile.
"Abby, Emma, thank goodness you're home," Derik said standing up and coming over to us and giving us each a hug.
"Either sit down, or get out," I told Derik who looked upset at me. He just nodded and went to sit back down. Emma and I followed. Emma sat next to Derik on the sofa and I took the other chair. I noticed the letter from ambrosia sitting on the coffee table. "So, I see you must have looked at his letter," I asked William.
"Yes, your little friend said I would want to see it," he said referring to my little friend as Derik, who didn't seem too impressed. "I was hoping we were going to have longer."
"What do you mean," I asked confused.
"The prophesy has yet to be wrong, Abigail," he said still petting Salem. "Which would mean you are destined to take over the vampire nation, I was just hoping it was going to be longer away."
"But I'm not ready for this. No one asked me to," I said with anger filling me.
"Sometimes there are things you do not want to do Abigail, but this is something that has to be done," he said gazing into my eyes. "You are the chosen one after all. Who ever wrote the prophesy knew it would be you." The way he said everything was so reassuring.
"But why would anyone think I could be able to handle this," I said still very upset.
"You are smart, strong," he paused for a second and chuckled as he continued, "and stubborn. You have only been a vampire for about a week now. The thirst has not consumed you, the sun has not bothered you. You can even praise the lord above, all the things that no other vampire can do. Not even ambrosia," he said meaningfully.
"Abby, this guy must know what he's talking about," Emma laughed. "He's only known you for a week and knows like everything about you." I looked over at her and noticed Derik looked more upset than usual.
"That doesn't mean much. I'm an easy person to get to know," I said honestly.
Derik looked up and looked directly into my eyes. "No, you are not. You're the hardest person to get to know, and the hardest person to get any hints, you're not as smart as people think you are. You try to be this sweet innocent girl, but there is nothing sweet about you. You enjoy to ruin everyone's happiness just to make yourself happy. The only thing he was right about was that you are the most stubborn girl I've ever met," he said all this with a stone cold look. Everyone in the room was shocked besides William who didn't look very happy.
"Derik, I think it's time you headed home," Emma said standing up. "I'll walk you out." She grabbed Derik by the arm and practically dragged him out. I just sat there looking down at my shoes to upset to say anything.
"Abigail, are you alright," William asked with concern in his tone. I looked up at him and he put Salem down and sat up in the chair looking at me.
"Yeah, I'll be fine," I lied. "So, back to business. So I have two weeks to prepare for what exactly," I asked.
"Well, please do not let this worry you, but you have to prepare to kill off ambrosia to overtake the vampire nation," he said straightforwardly.
"Ugh," I sighed. "This is going to be a rough two weeks. I can already see it." Out in the hallway I could hear Emma and Derik talking, that's the good thing about being a vampire, heighten senses.
"Derik, you can't be coming around here in Abby's and my home talking bad about her. You're lucky I don't hurt you right now for saying anything to begin with," I heard Emma say.
"Oh you know it's true," Derik said.
"No, it's not. You're just mad and jealous that she's never liked you back and that she's starting to fall for William," I heard Emma say and William must have heard her as well cause he looked directly at me.
"I don't care what you say, it's not true," Derik yelled and we heard a door slam closed. Emma came back into the living room right after.
"Sorry about that, I'm going to head to bed and let you guys talk vampire politics," Emma said darting back out of the room leaving me once again alone with William.
"So," William said with a smug look on his face, "you are falling for me," he asked.
"No," I said quickly. "Can we please just finish this up. Also I thought Cassius was supposed to come as well so you can find out about my parents."
"Cassius could not make it, something came up," William said. "Did you find out anything about your father," he asked.
"Unfortunately no. My grandmother has no idea. I guess my mother didn't even know what he did," I said. "All she was able to tell me was that the hours he worked was between nine at night until four or five in the morning."
"That is a little bit of information we could possibly use," William said. "How about we head to my house and figure out what to do and help plan for the next two weeks."
"Alright, I'm going to pack an overnight bag then," I laughed standing up.
"I'll meet you there," he said standing as well. "And you can bring my car back that you borrowed last week," he smirked and walked out the living room and out the front door. I headed upstairs and packed my bag and headed over to Williams in his car.
