I changed and looked at myself in the big wall mirror that was in the bedroom William was letting me stay in. I had on leggings, a light green sports bra, running shoes and had my long hair tied up in a ponytail. I felt cute, but right now depression was hitting me hard. Why am I the chosen one? Why does it have to be me? What do I have that no one else has? Oh yeah, that's right my father is a demon, and not just any demon, but the god of darkness and evil. Of course mixing that with turning into a vampire and you get me, unfortunately.
I figured William was waiting for me and that I had better hurry up. I headed downstairs and made my way into the training room to see William sitting on the weightlifting bench with his head in his hands. "William, is everything alright?" I asked quietly slowly walking over to him. He lifted his head up and looked at me. Before I could say or do anything he pulled me to him and now I was sitting on his lap. He pulled me into a tight hug and I hugged him back. I didn't know what he was thinking, but I'm glad I can be here to comfort him.
Finally he pulled away a little still keeping me close. "I apologize," he said his dark eyes drawing me to gaze back into his. "I should not be acting so emotional."
"Hey, everyone gets emotional here and there." I said lamely. He smiled at me and pulled me in for a kiss. So gentle and soft, yet so intense. The way our lips locked, it felt like it was meant to be. Finally he pulled back and nuzzled his face into my the side of my neck. I rubbed his back for a few minutes before breaking the moment. "So, you wanted me down here to do this?" I joked. He looked up at me with a sweet smile.
"No, even though this is nice." He said. "I actually wanted to help you practice for Wednesday."
"Ugh, okay. Fine. Just so you know, I am not looking forward to that day." I told him honestly.
"I do not blame you, it is not easy to kill someone; let alone killing one of the most powerful vampires." He said. "But, I know you can do it." I managed to stand up, but William still had me close to him.
"Hopefully I can do it," I said not feeling hopeful. William stood up and made me follow him into the center of the boxing arena looking thing. There was a punching bag hanging from the ceiling that was in the corner of the arena.
"Watch what I do," William said walking up to the punching bag. He punched it and kicked it in many different ways. He turned back to me. "I will not let you handle most of the fighting, but just in case you will learn. Now do what I just did." I hesitated, but walked up to the punching bag and tried to do exactly what William did. "You could definitely use some more practice." He showed me again and just like before I tried to do exactly what he did.
**********
About three hours went by and I was finally getting the hang of it. Thankfully to my vampire senses I wasn't exhausted like I would have been if I was human. "Now," William said. "Now I want you to practice staking.""Okay," I said very slowly. "I feel like I have a pretty good idea about how to do that." I told him.
"Staking seems easy enough, but to do it on someone alive is tricky. First, you need to hold the stake in your hand with a nice grip. Second, you need to find where you are going to drive the stake, and lastly, you need to follow through. That means once you start pushing it into the heart do not stop until the person goes blank in the face." He said. He touched a spot on his chest that I assumed to be where his heart was. "This is where the heart is," he touched my chest between my breasts and I could feel my face get warm. "This is where you will need to drive it."
"Okay, so have a good grip, find the heart and drive it into it nice and hard and don't back down." I tried to sum it up.
"Exactly, now I am going to place a couple X's on this punching bag, and you will use a knife to practice." He said as he started drawing the X's. Once he was done, he handed me a big sword looking knife. "Now, focus on the target and go for it." I did exactly what he told me to do, and the knife was left sticking out of the punching bag.
"So, did I do it?" I asked turning around to look at him.
"Very good." He said coming up to me. "You catch on pretty fast."
"Eh, what can I say. I have a good teacher." I said smugly to him. He gave me a grin. I practiced some more until he told me I was good to go.
"Well, it's getting late now and almost time for bed." William said looking at the watch on his wrist.
"Can I ask you something?" William looked up at me and made eye contact.
"Of course, what is it?" He asked focusing all his attention to me.
"Is what Victoria said true? That you are only helping me to become the king or whatever?" I asked shyly.
"Of course not, that is not true. I have wanted to help since I left ambrosia's clan. Cassius and I spied on him quite often to figure out who you were. Now that we know your father is helping him, it makes more sense now. I just do not want to see ambrosia take over more than what he already has. I want to help all the vampires, and helping you take over, will help everyone." He said honestly. "What is going on between you and I... is just luck." He laughed a little at that last part.
"That makes sense. I just don't know what Victoria has against me?" I told him.
"She is just jealous. She is upset because I have never liked her as she does me." He said.
"Oh," I said, not knowing what else to say.
"Just do not let her bother you." He said calmly. "Now, if you do not head to bed now, you will not make it to bed." He laughed. I smiled at him.
"Airtight, sleep well," I told him and headed up to my bedroom.
