I was scrolling through Instagram one day, and whilst scrolling through, I found this article.

https://worldofbuzz.com/woman-in-china-crashes-exs-wedding-to-get-him-back-offers-a-discount-on-dowry/

To summarize it all: A woman love this man, they wanted to get married, BUT the woman's mother gave a dowry which the man couldn't afford, then broke off the engagement. Then later in the future, the man found a new love and they were getting married, but the woman(his ex) crashes his wedding, wanting to get him back and offers a discount on the dowry, but she was pushed away by the man, and the ceremony went on.

After reading the whole article, I was both sadden and angry at the same time.

Firstly the sad part, I felt bad and sad for the woman who was pushed aside, she really loved him, they were close to getting married but because of the dowry.

Now, this is the angry part, the dowry. The dowry demanded by the woman's mother was too expensive, which led to the break-up. Now, if you don't know what's a dowry, a dowry is a payment, such as property or money, paid by the bride's family to the groom or his family or vice versa at the time of marriage. In simple terms, putting a price on the bride/groom.

This system/culture MUST be a culture of the past.

The reason is obvious, dowry is the blockade between true love. Parents should, no wait, MUST let their child/children get married because they love their partner and not because of the money.

Therefore, this is why the dowry culture MUST be a thing of the past
