Well, this started about 6 years ago and I had moved here with Tshidi's sister as we work for the same company. We became friends when her sister got sick and she had to come take care of her. So, I guess you could say we took care of each other from then. I take her as my little sister you know. She said
"Thank you for the sob story, what does all this have to do with her and Motheo?" He asked
"well, she and Motheo met through one of his colleagues. He was on the verge of loosing his job and she was one of the best miracle workers when coming to creating a scandal for someone and they asked her to help come up with some dirt that Motheo can use against him so that he doesn't get canned. She continued
"they somehow started with a love-hate kind of situation. Motheo was or is a womanizer and she is, well basically a bitch.... No offense, I don't mean to speak harsh if her but she knows how I feel about all this so.... Anyway, apparently there was a funeral you had asked Motheo to attend with you and after the funeral you met some woman and you guys seemed to hit it off and when motheo saw that, he couldn't let that happen. He somehow believes that all the good girls come running to you and he gets the "riff-raff"... Well, sort of. So when ya.ll started drinking he decided to drug you, turn you into a jerk in her eyes, using Tshidi also and only for him to come in and save the day. He sold her this whole "not everything that glitters is gold" mess and she believed him, fell in love with him and made sure that the both of you never cross paths because somehow the connection he witnessed between the both of you and how she spoke about you would have made you even better. You see, he considers her fragile and too good to be be with him but he'd do just about anything to make sure she doesn't get to know the real you. She is his jewel. She finished.
Why would I even care, I mean he got her.... so what? He asked, none of this made sense
"Tiego, this shit is deeper than just his wife. This guy has been after you all this time and you couldn't see it. She looked at him with sympathy.
" Tshidi says that he wanted to break you for some reason and that just didn't make sense even to her. She tried to find out but I guess that's a chapter that Motheo isn't willing to open with her.
" All the moments you had blacked out weren't because of excessive drinking and I mean you don't drink too much even on a lit day"....he just shook his head.
"where are you going with this?" he asked her.
"you were being drugged. Remember the time you almost had an accident with your father's car and he found drugs in it the nex morning, and by some miracle, your" best friend " helped you clear your name? Ringing any bells?
" what the fuck are you saying? "
" I'm saying, you were destined to be a so called junkie and he was going to take your place and smile in the process."Remember how you got with Tshidi?, besides after you got married?
" uhm.. Well, I do know but the details are just on the blurr side. He answered.
She chuckled. "Tiego, you never got with her before you got married. You didn't touch her. It was all in the plan and boy, that plan was paying all the right amounts of money.
You needed to believe the tale, you needed to feel guilty and you needed to do the" right thing" because if not, you'd be disowned by you father after all of your irresponsible choices and drunken sprees with your dear old best friend.Taking a deep breath, Tiego couldn't even utter a word. The emotions he felt on that day came rushing back. Fear, confusion, guilt, embarrassment. He couldn't believe the kind of person he had turned into, he had to make things right. To get back into his father's good books.
"He was there, reminding you of all the things that you stand to loose if you don't make an honest woman out of this poor girl". It was as if she was there. She knew every single detail.
Your best friend does not want you to come even close to out shining him.
Do you know how much they love each other?" she was waiting to see how he'd react.
"well, I guessed that it could be more than just sex... but"... He shrugged.
"honestly, I feel sorry for you" she said.
"Don't, I brought it all on myself... Was I that gullible?... I mean, I should have seen this you know". He said."Come on, you couldn't have. When you trust someone and they seem to be the only one who has your back, your bound to believe in almost anything they say". She told him.
"After you married Tshidi and after she gave birth to Tshego, they still couldn't live without each other in their lives so even though Tshidi got a legit job this side. She would Still take care of Motheo's shady deals when he'd have business here".
"But one thing, she kept you safe from Motheo".... Tiego looked at her and shook his head. "I'm serious". She said. "She made sure that he stops whatever plan he had to crush you. She made sure that she keeps him distracted and you as far from him as possible so that he can at least forget about this whole idiocy. we'll... We can only hope what she did worked." she looked at him.
It was now over 2 hours since he got there. This endless unravel might have been just what he needed to come up with his own plan to just get away from all this mess. Maybe start afresh somewhere without both Tshidi and Motheo in his life.
"Listen, I need to find out what made this guy hate me so much. I mean, who does shit like this and plays a supportive role so well?...
To his defense, he actually cares about you.... Tiego, I believe that there is more to this. This is definitely deeper than just you and his wife. She finished.
" yea, I think so too " He said and then sighed. He took a sip of water, leaned back on the chair and closed his eyes for a while. Another deep breath and he decided to leave.
"Thank you for telling me everything that you know." He gave her a closed mouth smile.
He walked out and drove home. Instead of talking to Tshidi or even check if she's there, he went straight to bed.*****
