PAAZ, four letters, four words I actually don't even know, a worldwide renown, teachers who are experts in their field, funds and even good quality food, this school has everything a student might wish for.
Getting in is already a plus on your resume, graduating from it opens every door. One of the most selective schools in the United-Kingdom, in Europe and probably even in the world, let's just say that not everybody can access this sort of education so it obviously makes you feel lucky when you can.
"I still can't believe I got in..."
"But we both got in! I still can't believe it either!"
"Get out of here! If someone could get into this school it's you and you actually got in with a perfect record!"
"It doesn't matter anymore, we're here now."
"Still, you're a genius."
"Apparently you are too."
Is there something more exciting than starting over? Trying to build yourself a new life away from home, from your high school friends and into one of the best colleges across the world?
I don't know, but I'm happy with my situation. Besides, I'm here with one of my closest friends.
That's what Kala is to me, we grew up together in the 'upper-class society' as our families call it but I know we've both always wanted to put some distance between this privileged world and us although, now that I think, about it studying here is probably not the best way to escape privileged life since some of the students here are from some of the richest families across the world.
I'm not gonna act like being rich is so hard or having everything you want is in the end not so satisfying blah blah blah, no, I'm just saying that...I really wanna experience something new, something else so that I can be glad when I come home and back to what I already know.
Kala's dad is a successful entrepreneur who moved from India twenty years ago, he met Kala's mom in Scotland and together they created this self-confident genius who happened to get into the same college as me, Ida Abberline.
My parents are really REALLY rich, like 'we live in a mansion' kind of rich.
My childhood was basically a mix of lessons of all kinds, including languages, music instruments, art, sports and even, my favourites, good-manners lessons with Hilda Goldstein the loveliest lady you can find who taught us with "patience" 'how to be ladies'.
Thank God this was not meant to bring us back in time to the Victorian era, no, it was just a way to prepare us for the important dinners and multiple upper-class society gatherings that were included in the "rich children pack"...
So yeah, my parents did that but I must admit that they also taught me some important values. For instance , growing up, they taught me that money at the end of the day is nothing.
Which sounds quite hypocritical coming from people who drink champagne like it's the price of water but I think that it's actually the opposite. It means they're aware of what they have, of their luck, my parents are not flawless but at least they are aware of many things.
Besides, they both are important and successful people because of their hard work, it's not like they just inherited or won the lottery, though there's no shame in that, they have what they have because they did their best to get it...okay, and they also come from two rich families but that's not the point!
If who you are is because of money then you are no one, is something that my mom has been repeating to me and my sister Marylou since we were born.
That's probably why I've always put the people I love first, I always feel so lucky and thankful for all the things that I have and all the people who're there around me, I guess that's my best quality and a flaw at the same time because in the process I tend to forget to treat myself the same way I treat the others...BUT nothing's as rewarding as seeing someone you love smile and knowing it's because of you!
