The distinct sounds of bones snapping could be heard as the young wolves all sat around the training area, eagerly waiting to see the match of a lifetime.

In the training space stood two mighty wolves, one with pure white fur, just a spec of black seen on one of its ears while the other with brown fur. The wolves were alphas, the strongest in the pack which made all this even more exciting.

Jeon Jungkook could hear the crowd going wild as he proudly stood there, his white wolf on full display. As an Alpha, his wolf was huge with crystal blue eyes, the orbs perfectly complimenting his wolf form. On the surface, the wolf looked harmless, like it a pretty painting, but the power it held in its form was anything but pretty.

His opponent stood in front of him, a wolf just as big as his, the shiny brown orbs sizing him up. Jung Hoseok was a gifted warrior, his strength at par with Jungkook's.

This match was the final test to test Jungkook, if he was indeed ready to take over the position of the head alpha from his father. Even though the official ceremony was supposed to be held after 3 months, the fight had to happen now so that it gives Jungkook enough time to ease into the role before the official handing down.

The fight began with both the wolves circling each other. Jungkook wasn't going to attack first. Even though this was a match, Jungkook couldn't bring himself to disrespect the older wolf who was like his elder brother. Attacking first means disrespect, and even though Jungkook was in his wolf form and the soon to be head alpha, his wolf was fairly tamed, the human and wolf in sync.

Hoseok attacked, his wolf jumping at Jungkook's, aiming for the front legs. Jungkook expertly moved aside, and kicked his hind legs, the strength pushing the elder wolf onto the ground.

The fight went for about 1 hour, both the wolves not backing down, until Jungkook finally pinned Hoseok's wolf down by holding the elder's neck in his mouth. The elder wolf ceased all movement, accepting defeat.

The crowd went wild. It was a great scene to witness the soon to be head alpha at his most primal form.

Though Hoseok knew that the younger had suppressed a lot of his dominance.

'You didn't use all your strength and dominance Kook. Why did you go easy on me?', Hoseok mindlinked the younger.

Jungkook laughed in his head. Ofcourse Hoseok knew. He was the one who trained Jungkook.

'Because it wasn't necessary hyung. I wasn't supposed to exert my dominance. I was just supposed to win the fight.', Jungkook replied back.

They shifted back into their human forms, and quickly donned the clothes bought forward by their pack members.

'Silence', a voice spoke out. Jeon Junghwan looked so proud standing there, speaking to his pack who all witnessed his son's strength.

'With this fight, Jungkook has proven his strength and ability to keep the pack members safe. A great leader is one who can make his pack rely on him. Jungkook has indeed proven himself today. Now, before I officially announce him as my heir, is their anyone who has any objections to it? If yes, speak now.'

The crowd was silent. Everyone knew what an objection meant. Whoever objected will have to fight Jungkook for the position of the head Alpha's successor. That fight though, would be a fight to the death. No one in the pack was stupid enough. Everyone knew what power Jungkook's wolf had. The dominance it oozed was something they had never seen in an alpha. It was so dominating.

When no objections were made, Junghwan smiled and said, 'Please accept the new heir and the soon to be next Head Alpha, Jeon Jungkook, my son'

Loud cheers erupted again, the training ground filled with happiness.

Jungkook turned around to see his friends walking up to him.

Seokjin and Namjoon were the first to hug him. These two had been more like a parental figure in Jungkook's life and Jungkook was honestly grateful for them.

Jimin was the second one. He had squeezed Jungkook so hard that Jungkook thought he would stop breathing. For an omega, Jimin was very strong. Maybe it was a result of all the training that Jimin has been doing. It was a necessity in their pack to train. Even if the rank was an omega. They also needed to learn to protect themselves in cases of emergencies.

Yoongi was the last one to hug him and he did so very gently.

'So proud of you Jungkook', Yoongi had spoken in his ears while hugging him. Hoseok stood beside Jungkook, smiling brightly.

Jungkook was honestly blessed to have received such caring friends. They were all close like real family and they had kind of taken care of Jungkook since he was a kid. It was also perhaps because Jungkook was the youngest in the group. But nonetheless, this family was amazing and Jungkook was very thankful for them.

The rest of the day was spent in celebrating as the head Alpha had thrown a party in the name of his son.

Jungkook looked at all his pack members, his wolf feeling calm knowing his pack was safe and happy.

He did feel a sting though when he saw mated pairs around him.

Mates. The one person who was made for you and for whom you were made. The one person who was supposed to be your everything.

How he wished he had his mate right now to celebrate his victory with. Jungkook has ached for his mate for 4 years. Ever since he had turned 18, which was the age werewolves matured enough to recognize their mates, he had waited. When the first 2 years had passed, he couldn't wait any longer so he had decided to search the neighboring packs. Still, he had returned empty handed.

His mate was still hidden. It was a good thing that werewolves could feel when their mates die, or else he would have believed his mate was no more. But Jungkook had not felt any pain to this day.

So he had hope. He hoped to one day be able to hold his mate like all these mated couples were doing.

He hoped to one day love his mate, no matter if it was an alpha, which was one of the pairings which was frowned upon.

He wasn't going to be like those douche alphas who rejected their alpha mates because they couldn't digest the fact that they may have to submit to their mates.

No. Jungkook wasn't like them. He was sure it would be hard to submit, but if his mate indeed turned out to be an alpha, he will still do it. He would do anything for his mate. His other half.

Similarly, if his mate turned out to be an omega, the weakest wolf in the pack, he still had no problems. The rank of the wolf cannot change the fact that the moon goddess bonded them for life.

He was going to accept his mate, who ever it will be, no matter what the rank was.

He has waited years and if he had to wait some more years, he will.

But he still wishes that the day will come soon. His wolf was dying from waiting and he desperately ached for his mate to come and save him.

If only he knew just how different his mate was going to be...

Still, he wouldn't change anything about it.
