I rarely had dreams and that night was one of the rare times I did. Someone was getting closer to me, and I remained frozen on the bed, not by choice, I couldn't move. It was a dream, or rather, felt like one but I could feel its breath fan my neck It was accompained by a sharp pain so intense I felt it all the way to my bones.
And then it's over, and I could move.
I sprang up from my bed, breathing hard. My eyes moved to Kate, who was still sleeping as I rubbed my neck.
I shut my eyes and urged myself to calm down. After a couple of deep breaths, I went to the bathroom to ease my bladder.
By the time I was back, my eyes were already heavy again. Making my way to my bed, my eyes went to Kate and I furrowed my brows when I noticed something.
There is a shadow.
A large shadow that definitely looks like a man's looming over her.Sleep was gone.
A scream ripped out of my lips and it disappeared.******
"No! I know what I saw."
The general sighed heavily.
When I screamed, Kate got up and Devon immediately teleported into my room. I started narrating everything to them, and halfway through my narration, Devon just teleported. I didn't have time to dwell on it because the general and his second-in-command came in with some hunters.
I told them the same thing, and just like Kate, they didn't believe me.
The general's second-in-command, Adam, said I was seeking attention and left with all the hunters except Jack, the water elemental I met weeks ago at the cafeteria.
"I have more important issues to deal with than this!" the general exploded before he stormed off.
Jack looks sympathetic, "You should get some rest, Kira," he told me.
I was now sitting on my bed with Kate, staring at the window but staring at nothing. She pulled me into her arms and I let her hug me.
"I didn't imagine it," I said.
She rubbed my head.
"You were still sleepy, Kira. You definitely imagined it."I was confused and scared. That shadow was definitely there. This wasn't something someone would just make up. What's worse is that tomorrow people were going to hear about this, and no longer was I going to be the powerless hunter, I would be upgraded to status of powerless lying hunter.
Tears filmed in my eyes.I pulled away from her. "You should go back to sleep."
She gave me a 'you sure?' look, and I affirmed with a nod. She went back to sleep barely two minutes after laying on her bed, and I watched her half expecting the shadow to loom over her again. It didn't.
My heart kept pounding furiously. I was shaking in fear, and one name keeps ringing in my head.
Devon. I had to meet him.
I left my room immediately without bothering to look for a sweater. The hallway was empty, but I kept looking behind me to see if someone or thing was following me.
I decided to take a stroll and wait for Devon to teleport to me, because I didn't know where he stayed. I never asked him because I knew he would be staying as far from our residence as safe land allowed, and I didn't want to hurt him by asking where his place of isolation was. I walked slowly around the building, looking around for signs of him, he didn't show up.
I decide to try another technique.
"Devon," I whispered, I couldn't possibly scream it was too late.
He didn't show up.
I tried it sixteen times, and made my way to sit on one of the steps at the entrance of my building in disappointment.
"You shouldn't be outside."
I looked up, and Devon was standing in front of me without a shirt, looking as handsome as ever. I didn't try to hide my appreciation. He was one of the most beautiful beings I had ever known. I wondered if he ever got cold.
He cocked his head to the side. "How long will your ogling last? "
I ran to him, and wrapped my arms around his torso. He instantly went stiff, but I went ahead to bury my face in his bare chest and cry.
"I didn't imagine the shadow Devon," I told him.
I tilted my head up, still holding him, and stared into his red irises. Something flickered through them so quickly I almost
missed it. Sorrow. Worry, maybe. His eyes went blank.
"Kira, I... I... You..." He tilted his head upwards, failing at making a complete sentence.Devon never stammered.
I stepped away from him. I had made him uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry," I apologized, wiping my tears off with the back of my hands.
We stood like that for a while in complete silence until ..."I would like to go ..."
"Come with me Kira."
We said at the same time. We stared at each other and he repeated, "Come with me. "I nodded. It didn't matter where we were going. I knew I was safe with him.
