...

We gazed at each other for a while. He, as usual, had no shirt on, and I made an effort not to stare at his bare chest for too long.

He casually put his hands in his pockets. "What are you doing outside your room at this hour, Kira?"

"I've been trying to reach you," I replied.

His crimson eyes locked with mine.
"I know."

I swallowed. "Why didn't you come?"

"I'm here."

"So you were ignoring me?"

An awkward silence followed.

"It's cold outside, and you should be in your room," he said, avoiding eye contact.

A few seconds passed in silence.

"You kissed her."

He glanced up.

"You kissed Evelyn," I stated.

His tongue briefly touched his lips.

"But yesterday, you kissed me, put me to sleep, and canceled our training. And now I find out it was all to be with Evelyn."

He ran his hand through his hair. "Kira."

"Why?" I watched him exhale heavily. "Answer me, Devon!"

He remained silent.
I took a step towards him, and he took two steps back.

Tears welled up in my eyes. I couldn't understand why his silence hurt more than any words I didn't know but desperately wanted to hear from him.

"What happened to your forehead?" he asked.

"Answer me," I said, my voice trembling.

"The kiss meant nothing, Kira," His gaze locked with mine. "It meant nothing."

Angrily, I brushed away a tear that had rolled down my cheek, and I saw his eyes soften.

"I don't want to hurt you."

I scoffed, "That has nothing to do with what I asked."

"You don't understand. I'm a demon, Kira. Demons aren't capable of the feelings I have for you. When I'm with you, I don't want the day to end. When I'm not with you, you're all I can think about, and I can't wait for the next day to see you again. And I... It kills me when you're sad. I'm so confused, Kira. You confuse me," His gaze briefly dropped to my lips before looking away.

"That's why I put you to sleep, canceled our training, and kissed Evelyn, but it meant nothing. I wasn't... I wasn't thinking straight."

I shook my head.
"You confuse me even more, Devon. I don't even know why I bothered coming out here to see if you were alright when it clearly shows you are. You should be grateful I even let you kiss me!"

He stared at me.

"Goodnight."
I stormed off, but his words kept playing in my head. He had feelings for me.

*****

This morning, as usual, there was a cup of coffee and a note that read...

I have something to attend to outside. No training.

I refused to let it bother me. He could go to hell for all I cared.

He had also left me breakfast, and after rinsing my mouth, I ate it before deciding to freshen up. Today, I planned to visit the library, mainly to see if there were any books on demons.

The walk to the library was quiet, and there were no hunters or humans around since everyone was busy with training.

Upon entering the library, I was met with the expected silence. I greeted the elderly lady sitting behind the large desk, and she responded with a slight frown.

"Aren't you supposed to be training, child?" she asked. She was human.

I shrugged, "My trainer isn't available at the moment."

She didn't say anything further, and I walked away.
The library smelled of warm vanilla and old books, and I inhaled deeply, finding it soothing. I wondered why I hadn't visited before. The library was vast, with tall shelves that nearly reached the ceiling, filled with books from top to bottom.

Where would I find a book about demons in this place? I randomly picked a book from the shelf I was standing near, flipped through its pages, and then returned it with a sigh. It was about the war.

"Need help?"

I froze. I recognized that voice.
I raised my eyes and met a pair of beautiful violet eyes.
She wore dark jeans with a lavender top, and her long hair was slightly damp. Why did she look even more stunning in the daylight?
My heart began to race. What did she want?

Her gaze scanned me, and then she looked up.
"Calm down, Kira, before you give yourself a heart attack," she stepped closer. "Your heart is beating too fast and too loudly. It's annoying."

My jaw dropped. How? What?
"Why are you here?" I managed to ask.

She raised an eyebrow, "It's a library, why do you think I would be here?"
I didn't believe her.

Her eyes moved to my forehead, "I didn't notice you were injured. Did it happen when I made you fall?"

Lord, why did I have to run into her of all people?

She placed a hand on her chest,
"Your thoughts hurt me, Kira. I was just trying to show concern."

I gasped this time and took several steps back.

"You can hear my thoughts?"

She tilted her head to the side.

"What the hell are you?"

She wet her lips with her tongue as her finger trailed down the spine of a book on the shelf.
"Let's not talk about me, Kira. Let's talk about you." I didn't like the way she was looking at me.

She faced me again and started moving closer. At this point, I no longer wanted to be in the library, and then something strange happened. I couldn't move. Not a single muscle in my body would respond.

"Let's talk about why you're here, Kira."

All I could do was stare at her. What was she doing to me?

"You're here because you finally want to stop being so clueless and pathetic. You want to know more about your precious demon, don't you?"

She chuckled. A shiver ran down my spine.

"Kira, Kira, Kira," she chanted and stood directly in front of me, her violet eyes piercing deep into my soul.

"There's so much you don't know. Countless lies and hidden truths," her finger traced down the side of my face.

"There are people, Kira, creatures waiting for you. You don't know what you're up against, but that's why I'm here. To protect you from the people you think care about you, to guide you towards your destiny, to lead you to the prophecy."

She stepped away from me, and suddenly my hands reached out. I had no control over them. I watched as a book materialized in my hands.

"The rest was destroyed. This is the last sacred book on Earth. Once you've read everything you need to, find me," her smirk returned. "Enjoy."

She slowly vanished until she was completely gone.

As soon as I regained control of my body, I collapsed onto the ground.
