Chapter Forty Seven

I opened my eyes and fluttered my eyes at the familiar white ceiling. The windows were open, and sunlight seeped into the room so I knew it was morning or afternoon ?
How long was I out ?

I heard voices speaking in low tones, they probably didn't know I was awake.

"Evelyn you have to tell him, let him know what's going on ", The masculine voice was familiar but I couldn't remember the face attached to it.

I heard her sobbing. What was wrong with her ?
"What is there for him to know ? I'm carrying something that has never been heard of", she cried.

"You have to tell him so you two can figure this out. Whatever is in your womb ... ", He took a long pause, "It needs to be eliminated now Evelyn, before it kills you".

Wait Evelyn was pregnant ?
I shut my eyes. I needed to hear more, what did he mean by whatever is in your womb needs to eliminated before it kills you ?
And what did she mean by I'm carrying something that has never been heard of ?

She started to cry harder, and it made my heart constrict. I hated seeing people in pain, people I knew and people that had always been there for me. Who was the father of the child ?

"Evelyn please stop crying ", The man said in a soothing voice, "We'll figure this out, but you need to tell him. Maybe he knows something that can help you ".

She spoke between sobs, "I had just taken all the abortion herbs you have. All of it, and it's still living. Have you looked at the scan Samuel ? I don't even know what to call it", She wept harder, "I'm done for ".

She wanted to kill the child ? Something was wrong, seriously wrong.
At that point I opened my eyes, and sat up.
She was sitting on one of the beds, and a man definitely the doctor judging from his attire was standing close to her. They weren't even paying attention to anything else other than their conversation, so they didn't realize I was up.

"It's all my fault ", She continued.

He placed a hand on her shoulder, "He played a part too ".

She shoved his hand off her shoulder, "You don't understand ! De ...", and her eyes met mine, "Kira ?".

Samuel as she called him, turned to me.
"Oh ! she's awake. That was faster than the last time", he said with a smile I knew was fake. There was sadness in his eyes, and I noticed they were slightly swollen and red like he had been crying.

"Hi", I greeted both of them.

Evelyn looked away from me to wipe her tears away, before looking at me again, stretching her lips in a pretentious smile.
Samuel placed a hand on my forehead, and checked my eyes . I recognized him as the same human I had spoken harshly to when I first woke up here, the same doctor that had been treating me. I felt bad.

"I don't even know what caused your fainting, but you look fine ", he stated.

" Is she good to leave ?", Evelyn inquired.

He nodded, "Yes ".
He smiled at me but it was just as fake as Evelyn's.

What was going on ?

"Thank you", I said, and I really meant it.

He gave a curt nod, "You're always welcome Kira ".

I looked at Evelyn as she spoke, "Come on, I'll take you back to your room and inform the seer and general you're awake".

The walk to my room was very quiet and awkward. Not just because all the humans and hunters were training, but because Evelyn didn't say a thing which was wierd. She always had something to tell me, whether I wanted or didn't want to listen she always talked as we walked .

We stopped in front of my room, she didn't ask if I had the key which I didn't but the Evelyn I knew would've asked. She just conjured a key with small fire, and used it to open the door.

"It's fire proof", She informed me, as she made her way in, holding open the door for me to follow.

I didn't say anything, and entered the room.
I moved my gaze around the familiar space, it was very neat almost like nothing had happened.

"Kathryn was moved out ".

I moved my gaze to her. Her eyes were hollow, almost dead and she looked pale and very sick. She looked like a different version of the Evelyn I knew, a version I didn't like.

She ran her tongue over her lower lip, "No one knows what caused your fainting, everything is still a mystery. So the general had her moved just for safety purposes ".

I took in a deep breath, and even though I felt the slightest ache in my heart I understood why she was moved.

"Do you need anything ? I need to inform the Seer, and general that you're awake. You might be called for questioning ", She said, already holding the door open to walk out

I searched her unfamiliar eyes, "Are you okay ?".

There was a short wave of silence.

"Why are you asking me that ?", She asked, her voice was cold and harsh.

I shifted my weight from one foot to another, why was the way she looked at me making me nervous ?

"You just ... You're just acting a bit ... off", I shrugged, "I'm just ... ".

"You heard everything didn't you ?", She cut in, her eyes boring into mine through the small distance between us.

I swallowed unable to conjure words and using her right hand, she pushed the door and it slammed shut.

She walked over to me till we were very close.
"I want to ask you something Kira, and I want you to tell me nothing but the truth ".

I nodded feeling uneasy, "Sure, what is it ?".

"What's going on between Devon and you ?".
