Lady was practically buzzing with excitement. She was finally going to get to see the lanterns up close. Her new friends had made her feel special for her birthday, and now Angie helped her with her hair.

"You seem nervous." Lady tilted her head back to look at Angie. "Are you?"

"I'm alright." Angie gave her a small smile, placing the last flower behind her ear. She was lying. This was her last night with Lady before she had to take her home. Despite what Kornbread had said, she didn't really have proof that Lady was the lost princess. She would have to go through with bringing her back to her tower.

Lady tilted her head but nodded, looking at herself in the mirror. Deja had given her another dress, this one displaying patterns of suns. She smiled as she gazed at it, turning to the window to see the sun starting to set.

"You ready?" Angie said as she pulled a hood over her head. She wanted to do this for Lady, but didn't want to get caught by anyone who would recognize her.

Lady nodded excitedly and followed Angie to the door, skipping outside and being met by the animals that had taken a liking to her. Angie sighed softly as she followed behind her, trying to be optimistic.

"You'll be okay, Ang." Angie looked over when hearing Alyssa, her friend giving her a sympathetic look. "Don't worry too much."

Angie nodded a bit, hoping time could drag by so she could have longer with Lady. She caught up to the excited girl who took her hand, gazing at the forest around them.

"I bet the kingdom is beautiful." Lady smiled as she swung Angie's arm back and forth. "You've been there. Is it?"

Angie held her hand firmly, finding herself not wanting to let go. "It is..." She responded softly. If she was honest, she missed living there. She loved her friends of course, but they all knew they couldn't go back after all the trouble they got themselves into. So they stayed in the forest where they were safer.

"Mother goes sometimes. But she never takes me." Lady said, leaning against Angie's arm. "I wish she would."

"My offer still stands." Angie reminded her as they approached the open gates of the kingdom. "We'd love to have you with us."

"You know I can't..." Lady looked down sadly, her voice quiet. "I can't leave Mother."

Angie knew she would say that. She tried to hide her disappointment as they walked through the gates. Lady looked up once they did, her eyes going wide as she took in her surroundings.

The streets were lined in bright colors, music filling the kingdom as they celebrated the princess. Lady had never seen anything like it. She smiled as she gripped Angie's hand tighter, studying everyone who passed by. They all looked nothing like Mother described to her.

Angie couldn't help but admire Lady's reactions to everything. It was like watching someone experience life for the first time. She looked to the side to see a stand selling the lanterns to release into the sky, getting an idea and walking over as Lady became distracted by the mural on the wall.

Lady gazed up at the painting of the king and queen, focusing on the baby in their arms the most. She seemed so familiar, but she didn't know where from. Probably from a picture in the books Mother would bring for her. She looked down to see people placing candles and small toys down in front of the mural, tilting her head.
