Living in your studio apartment in Seattle has been going smoothly until the power goes out. That's when you meet the drag queen who lives downstairs.
----

Moving to live on your own had been scary at first, but after settling in and getting to know the area, you had calmed down and started to enjoy it quite a bit. Your small apartment was nice and comfortable and perfect for just you and your dog. The neighbors were pretty quiet if you didn't count the one directly under you. They had a habit of playing their music super loud, but you tried your best to ignore it.

It was late one night and you were up busy finishing up a college application. Your day job hadn't been super busy. If it had been you probably would've procrastinated this application even longer. You hummed to yourself, focused until your desk lamp flickered before going out.

You stopped, flipping the switch until she realized all the lights in the apartment had gone out. Slightly scared, you stood up and went to the window near the balcony. You looked outside, seeing the other buildings around had lost power as well.

You sighed. Your laptop was almost dead and now you couldn't charge it, so it was no use to even try finishing the application. Sighing, you grabbed a candle from one of your shelves and struggled to find your lighter. You didn't know how long the power would be out, but you hoped it wasn't long.

You set the candles around the apartment and settled down on your couch. It wasn't like you were scared of the dark, it was just annoying more than anything. You were at least glad that this was the quietest it had been in a while, not even your neighbor's music playing or vibrating the walls.

You found yourself enjoying it, leaning back into the couch cushion. Just as you were about to try to rest for a little there was a loud knock, making you jump. You looked towards your door, but the sound hadn't come from there. You narrowed your eyes when hearing it again, slowly turning to the window.

You held a candle in your hands before slowly pulling back the curtain, almost screaming when a face stared back at you from the fire escape.

"I'm sorry-" The person said and moved farther from the window, giving an awkward smile and small wave. "I came from downstairs to ask if you have power-"

You stared at her before shaking your head, gripping the curtain. So this was the neighbor with the super loud music.

The girl looked around before facing you again. "...And I locked myself out of my apartment. Can I come in?"

You mentally groaned. You wanted to say no, wanting to have your peace. But the girl gave you a goofy smile and tilted her head to the side, and you found yourself slowly nodding. You opened up the window and stood back, watching your neighbor hop down from the fire escape and into your apartment.

She looked around before turning to you, hand on her hip as she stuck her hand out. "Hi new friend. I'm Bosco."

You slowly blinked, not knowing what you had just gotten yourself into. "I'm y/n." You said and shook her hand.

"Cool." Bosco smiled and didn't hesitate to make herself comfortable, plopping down on her couch. "You don't mind me waiting here until my roommate gets back?"

Yes, you did mind. But yet you found yourself shaking your head. "How long will that be?"

Bosco shrugged, scrolling on her phone as she leaned on a couch cushion. "It's hard to tell with them."

You stared at her, slowly taking a seat on the opposite side of the couch. You set the candle back down on the coffee table, turning to see Bosco looking at you curiously.

"So what do you do?" She asked politely, leaning forward towards you as she held the cushion in her lap.

"Uhh..." You were still slightly nervous of this new stranger, but they seemed kind enough. "I work at a coffee place down the street. And currently trying to get into college."

"I like coffee." Bosco smiled at you. "I drink a lot."

"Somehow I don't doubt that." You said softly, giving her a small smile. "What do you do?"

"Oh yeah. I'm a drag queen." She said as she twirled a strand of hair. "A pretty good one if I say so myself. And a pretty one."

You had to agree with that last part. You were guessing Bosco wasn't in drag at the moment, but even so they were pretty. It was evident even in the faint candlelight.

"I'm sure you are." You said, watching as Bosco leaned back over the arm of the couch. It wasn't like you hadn't made any friends yet in Seattle. You got along pretty well with your coworkers, but hadn't had anyone over to your apartment yet. So this was new.

"You should come see me perform." Bosco smiled before shivering, rubbing her arms.

Now that the heater couldn't turn on, the apartment started to get cold. "I'll be back." You told her and stood up to go to your room. You grabbed a couple more candles to light and a couple of the blankets that were scattered around the room.

Bosco was keeping herself entertained by looking at the pictures and paintings covering the walls. She smiled at a couple of them, turning to you when you came back from the bedroom.

"Did you paint these?" She asked, motioning towards the different canvases.

You nodded, handing her one of the blankets. "Yeah, some are newer and some are from back in high school."

Bosco took the blanket, gazing at the paintings again. "I'll pay you to make me one."

You blushed, shaking your head quickly. "Oh no, you don't have to do that. I don't mind making you one for free. They aren't good enough for people to spend money on them."

Bosco frowned, sitting back on the couch with the blanket draped over her shoulders. "Too bad. I'll pay you for one. I guess it's true that artists are always their own worst critic."

You still would feel bad if she paid for one, but she seemed to have made up her mind. You watched as she snuggled into the blanket and leaned against the arm of the couch. You grabbed some water bottles from your kitchen and brought one out to her.

"Thanks." She smiled and looked up at you. Something about her gaze was captivating, even in the dimly candlelit room. You tried your best not to stare too much as you sat back down, listening to her starting to talk again.

You were definitely grateful she wasn't making this awkward. She talked to you like she had known you for years. She ranted about how loud her roommate snored, how much horse feed had gone up in price (which led to another happier rant about her horse), and you were sure she had mentioned she was auditioning to be on a show. It wasn't too long after that when the lights flickered before fully coming on again.

"Thank God..." You said as you stood up, blowing one of the candles out. "This apartment is going to smell like a Bath and Body Works for months."

Bosco laughed, looking down at her phone when she got a text from her roommate. She stood up, scribbling something down on the paper that was left on the coffee table.

"My roommate just got here. So I should be going." She said, handing you the paper. You slowly took it, kind of not wanting her to go so soon.

She flashed you a smile, blowing out the last candle for you as you walked her to the door. "You should come see me perform sometime."

"I'd like that." You smiled, opening the door for her. She nudged your shoulder playfully as she skipped down the hall, waving back to you and making your heart flutter.

You looked down at the paper to find Bosco's number, giggling softly as you closed the door. Suddenly, you weren't at all mad about the times she played her music too loud.
