"-Now you're my prisoner! And I'm never letting you go!" Screaming those last words, the green fusion plummeted herself into the bottom of the ocean. She felt sick as another half of herself tried to break free. She swam like a fish to the bottom of the sea, in a tall stone tower, broken down with algae and coral.
She slowly let go of some of the chains, carefully placing them on again. She took a breath and started to glow. A burst of blue and orange exploded outward. A young blue woman was staring at another woman, striped and struggling. "Jasper." The victim looked up.
She looked scared.
"You... Aren't going to escape!" The gem continued. "So..." She paused to find the right intimidating words. "Stop struggling! The ocean is strong, stronger than even Peridot's gadgets! Once I'm existing, you will be my prisoner, as I promised!"
"You actually sound... Not pathetic." Jasper panted/grunted. She seemed trustworthy... For now. "Where are you going to go, Lapis? You're not the 'stick around' type."
She was right. She hated staying put. On Home World, in a mirror, on Earth, in a giant green hand... She always got sick of it. "I can still go places." She wasn't looking at Jasper now. She looked at the surface. "You're not my priority." Jasper rose a bushy eyebrow. "Really?"
"Really."
She felt Jasper's hateful, but somehow soft, gaze burning the back of her neck. It was almost longing. But it was a trick. Lapis wasn't stupid, Jasper wasn't either.
But the truth is, Jasper was fun. Not fun as in friendly, but challenging. She thought Jasper would be struggling. They would have an intense battle, that would maybe last for centuries.
Or something.
But she wasn't. So Lapis had nothing to do. And she was already getting bored. Her feet swayed from side to side. "I can give you something to do." Lapis thought this sounded suspicious and overall inappropriate, but she tuned in anyhow.
"Your weapon."
"My... Weapon...?" Lapis tried not to make it sound ignorant, but it was too late. She recognized her water wings weren't weapons. She remembered herself having one. Gems weren't all-knowing. They forget sometimes too.
But Lapis was different. Since she has wings, it takes up capacity in her gem. That means her weapon doesn't retreat back to her gem. She has to retrieve it.
"I remember."
Jasper was speaking. "You were fighting for Home World. Against Rose - the old one, not the sick and weird-" "Steven Universe!" Lapis interrupted defensively. "Whatever. There was a big pink explosion and a flag went up. Rose pulled out a mirror and you disappeared. The rest of us left."
The mirror?
The prison that had held her for so long?
Her weapon couldn't have fit in that.
"I need to get to the Crystal Gems."
She started to leave, but looked back at Jasper, and looked in front again.
"Lapis, remember to check on her."
