Steven lay listening to his friends in his bed. "This entire thing is giving me a headache." Pearl complained. "Stop acting like a baby!" Amethyst retorted. "Things happen."
"No. They don't. But they do." Garnet tapped her fingers on her wide hips. "Gems don't usually convert from good to bad, but absolute power does corrupt absolutely."
"That makes sense I guess." Amethyst yawned. "What are we going to do about Steven? He's too nice with Lapis Lazuli. He's... Kinda useless."
Steven held back a gasp. Useless? He was really useless? Seriously? He looked out the window to one well-lit house. "Connie. She can help me figure this out in my own way." He tumbled out of his bed and slipped on jeans, sandals, and a leather jacket with a star on the pocket.
"Here I come Connie." He murmured, climbing out the window, not bubbling himself at the bottom since it made a big popping noise. He ran across the sand, stopping as the door swung open.
Pearl looked over the beach. She saw a tiny cat in the middle of the sand. "Weird cat. Amethyst! Come throw the cat out!"
Amethyst did as told and threw him into the road. As she left Steven transformed back. "Ow." He rubbed his head.
"Steven? Steven Universe?" He looked up to see a girl in oversized boots. "Connie?" "What are you doing here!" She whispered.
"Did you sneak out?!"
"Yes. What about you?"
"I'm just getting some donuts for the morning. My parents like them cold and early."
"Oh. Okay. I need help."
"With what?" She asked warily.
"LapisLazulineededhelpgettingherweaponbackfromJasperbutwhenwedidshestoleJasper'sweaponandfuseditwithherswhichisatrident,butnowshewantseveryones'weapons!" Steven explained quickly.
"Oh. That's it? I-I mean OH, that's not good!" Connie put a hand over her mouth. She clicked her left heel against the side of her right foot. "What?" Steven narrowed his eyes. "Never mind that." Connie tried to say. "No, mind that! What are you hiding?!" He demanded.
"Do you like ripping bandages off quickly or slowly?" She asked. "Quick... I guess...?" He responded.
"I knew your mother."
Steven stumbled backwards. "Are you older than me?" "Kind of." She bent down and took a boot off. There was a big bandage. Steven took a step forward. She ripped it off to reveal metal circuits underneath.
"You're... A robot..." He whispered.
"Actually, a high-tech animatronic. Created by Rose Quartz. 1876-ish..." She swiveled her hand a little.
"But... But..." "I was programmed with feelings. Joy, sadness, anger, disgust, fear, the whole thing. I was programmed to keep you safe. And Earth. So in a way I'm just like your mother."
Steven took a rock and threw it at her.
Bang.
