There was a grassy field filled with wildflowers just beyond the palace that I loved to go to. It was peaceful enough to calm my nerves from the lifestyle I lived. The expectations of being the fiancée to the future king of Asgard and a warrior wasn't an easy to uphold sometimes. It also wasn't easy loving a man who was as arrogant as Thor. He always hungered to fight and prove himself to anyone that he was the best. He always needed to prove to the people that he was meant to be king. The people already loved him for his bravery and his looks, so I never understood why he needed to show off. Honestly, the love from his people and friends was probably the reason why he became so arrogant in the first place.
I leaned back, allowing the sun to warm my skin as I closed my eyes. Thor was going to have his coronation ceremony soon. After the ceremony, we would have a wedding to plan. Then, I would be coronated and rule Asgard alongside Thor. It was what my father always hoped for. He and my stepmother made it clear that I was destined to marry Thor from the moment our arrangement took place. It would be a great honor for my family and me.
"A lady like you should not be so far away from the palace," a voice said, making me smile. I opened my eyes to see Loki walking toward me.
"And pray tell, why I shouldn't be far away from that place?"
"Well, anything can happen to you," Loki replied. "I would hate for the future queen of Asgard to be harmed in any way."
I rolled my eyes and closed the book on my lap. I turned around to the tree behind me and threw the book at the real Loki. The moment the book hit Loki's chest, the illusion of Loki disappeared. I smirked at him. "You should know by now that trick doesn't work on me."
"Yes, you're not as gullible as Thor. I will admit to that. You have always been far more clever than him. I suppose you shall be the brain while Thor will be the brawn once you two take the throne." Loki sat down next to me and handed my book back.
I grabbed the book from him. "Yes, we will be the perfect pair, won't we?"
Loki studied me for a moment, "You're unhappy. Why?"
"I don't know what you mean, Loki. I'm giving my family the greatest honor I could ever give them. I am a skilled warrior and soon-to-be queen. Why would I be unhappy?"
"Yes, I suppose it would be quite foolish to be unhappy for having a promising life. You will be a wonderful queen. Any man would be lucky to have you."
Loki and I developed a good friendship through the years. Ever since I had my first training with them in the courtyard, Loki and I got to know each other better, especially when Frigga decided to train me in the arts of sorcery. I wasn't as skilled as Loki, but I still managed to learn how to conceal my presence, telekinesis, and telepathy. I couldn't cast duplications of myself the way that Loki could, which made me a bit jealous. I would've loved the idea of playing tricks on Thor with that ability or even creating illusions.
Most of the time, I would find myself confiding in Loki about matters that I wasn't able to do with Thor. As much as I loved Thor, he didn't have the same mindset as me. His thirst for fixing a problem through aggression differed from my need of wanting to fix a problem through communication or compromise. I suppose that's why Thor needed me in hopes that I can show him there was a middle ground to a solution.
"Lady Ravenna!" A voice called, making me roll my eyes.
"I suppose my time of peace and solitude is over," I sighed as I stood up to face my handmaiden, Halle. Halle was an adorable red-headed girl with gorgeous blue eyes. She was a sweet girl, but at times, her presence could be rather bothersome. "What is it, Halle?"
"Oh, Milady, I'm so glad I found you. Your mother has been looking all over for you. You are supposed to have your fitting for the coronation of Prince Thor. Also, you are supposed to decide what dress you wanted for your wedding and-"
