Ambar POV
I marched in the waiting room for what seemed like the hundredth time pacing up and down, looking at the adjacent door for the doctor to come out and say something as Rehaan sat on the chair with his feet tapping anxiously.
"Can you stop that?" I say trying every bit to not lose my temper as he points to my feet.
"I am not the one burning holes on the carpet. For fucks sake, just sit down. She's a strong girl, she'll be okay." He says and I shake my head rubbing my hand over my face impatiently.
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have let her drive out of the house alone when she's pregnant and... and.. she didn't even have breakfast." I say as a old lady in a white coat somewhere in her late fifties walks out with a stethoscope around her neck.
"Dr." I say running to stand infront of her blocking her way.
"You must be the father?" She asks and I nod.
"I... Yeah... How's she doing?" I ask and she points to a hallway.
"My cabin is down the hall. Ask for Dr. Shelly after you've met her. Then I'll sign the discharge papers. Right now, just know that the mother and the child are doing okay." She says in a very serious tone and that would have worried me, If I had time to think about it but instead all I wanted to do right now was hold Ayra in my arms.
I nod and head inside the door as the nurse was helping her sit up.
"You stupid woman." I say entering and the nurse looks at me shocked and bends to whisper in Ayra's ear.
"Do you want me to contact woman's helpline for domestic violence?" she whispers but I heard some and my lip reading skills helped as well.
"No..." she says with a chuckle and gets up. "He's just pissed. Don't worry, he won't hurt me. He never has." She continues as the nurse leaves us alone.
"Why would you leave the house with nothing in your belly and your phone? Where is it?" I ask and she shakes her head.
"The battery died." She says looking around for her bag that was kept on the bedside table.
"and then my car died too and then..." she goes to say as I just couldn't take it anymore.
"JUST SHUT UP." I say as she looks scared as I furiously run my hand through my hair.
"I'm sorry." I say and sit by the seat near her bed but she taps the empty space on the bed next to her. I get up and sit there putting my arms around her as she leans back on me.
"You thought I died too?" she whispers.
"I'm a police officer Ayra. I've... I've seen shit and... I assume the worst case scenario... that's... that's just how..." I go to say as she interrupts.
"SShhhh... I'm fine and the baby is fine. So, let's just go home." She says and I nod remembering what the doctor had said earlier.
"I'll go get the discharge papers. I'll send Chetan to be with you while I'm gone." I say kissing her forehead and getting up.
"I don't need a babysitter." She says and I shake my head.
"THAT... my dear wife is still up for discussion." I say walking out and tell Chetan to go in as I find the cabin of Dr. Shelly. Walking down the hallway decorated with pictures of new borns and uteruses featuring advertisement for Stem cell preservation , I try my best to not be overwhelmed by the flow of information I had failed to notice earlier.
I knock on the cabin after I found the one with the name of Dr.H.Shelly, MBBS, MD (Gynae-Ob), FACEE.
" Come in." she says and I open the door to see her wearing a pair of thin rimmed glasses, placed on her nose, peeking at me from above them.
